This open box TCL QM8K is a bright QD mini LED TV that can be a strong value if the unit is in decent shape. The best reports describe display or return units arriving clean, working well, and sometimes still in the original box, with missing remotes or stands being the most common gaps. The main caution is that Fair and Good labels can hide long term demo use, so checking hours, damage, and included accessories in store or during the return window matters. A solid pick only after inspecting the exact unit.
Deal hunters comfortable checking hours used and damage, because good-condition units can be lightly used while excellent units can still be beat-up box returns.
Buyers who want a low-risk open-box TV without screen wear, because Fair and Good units can be display models with scratches or heavy torching from long hours at full brightness.
People who need a guaranteed pristine panel, because some display units have been running for over a year and the discount may not justify the over-usage.
Often it does not. Several open-box units were missing the remote, and some also lacked the stand/legs, so it's worth checking the listing and inspecting the box contents before leaving the store.
They can be display units with many hours at full brightness, and some were used for over a year. A returned unit is more likely to be a better buy, while display models may have more wear even if they still work fine.
The standard return window is 14 days, and it can extend to 60 days with a Best Buy membership. That makes it practical to test the TV thoroughly for damage, usage, and missing accessories right away.
Yes. One open-box QM8K was registered directly with TCL and received a 1-year warranty plus an extra 90 days. If the unit is bad, checking whether it is still under warranty may also help with a replacement.
Are they usually still hooked up where you could check the hours before buying?
no, at my store all the open box were in the old speaker test section that was part of magnolia unplugged on those metal carts. None of them even had the cord connected to them.
Great TV, much more likely to trust a "Good" or "fair" mini-led than OLED.
always have to check them though, in my experience they don't really follow the guidelines that the website says. Sometimes a fair will actually be in excellent condition and vice versa. Just look at the comments on this and other threads about these open box deals and lots of people saying it didn't come with remote but it was listed good. Good is only supposed to be missing non essential parts/accessories, which I don't think a remote falls under so all those should be listed as Fair.

When you order online just put curbside pickup. In my experience they stack those upfront behind customer checkout. Then just ask to hook the tv up to power and check it out before you leave the store

I bought an LG G5 the other day that was hundreds below its open box price online
I have seen " excellent" online and it was indeed their store display that been mounted on their wall for months
I have seen fair( and bought it) ..where the TV was in original box in the plastic and nothing had been opened except the top of the box

It's a gamble, but you can return or even check the contents before you leave the store.
The ratings are hit or miss. So an Excellent can be fair, and a fair can be excellent. Also, if you get something that is horrible, you might be able to check to see if its still under warranty, and get a warranty replacement.
Best Buy open box is pretty good imo due tothem accepting returns. I bought a laptop and TV from there. Good condition was basically used once. Excellent was a same day return (box was beat up/opened but nothing was touched yet).
Just check hours used, check if everything works, and check for damage. You can return it same week.
