This Frigidaire 6.5 cubic foot upright freezer stands out for garage use and easier access than a chest freezer, with several long term reports of it running well through hot summers and frigid winters. The 1 year parts and labor warranty is clearer than the confusing return window, and the manual defrost design is the main tradeoff. The cabinet can arrive with cosmetic scratches or dents, and the build feels flimsy enough that returns may be awkward. It is a practical compact freezer if you are fine with periodic defrosting and careful delivery handling.

Common Questions (4)

  • The freezer has a 1-year parts-and-labor warranty, but Walmart's return window for this appliance is only 2 days and major appliances are not returnable in store. That makes delivery inspection important, especially for dents or scratches.

  • Yes. It is manual defrost, so you need to defrost it periodically rather than relying on frost-free operation. That makes it a better fit if you do not mind the maintenance.

  • Yes, it has been used successfully in a Midwest garage through frigid winters and in a Nashville garage that reaches about 93°F in summer. It is marketed as garage-ready, but keeping a temperature monitor on it can help catch problems early.

  • Yes. It should be kept upright for about 24 hours before powering on so compressor oil can settle back after transport. That is especially important if it may have been shipped or stored on its side.

I got this 3 years ago and still works. At that time the biggest concern of the reviews were scratches and dents but mine was all good. It sits across from our regular fridge and looks nice. I am looking for a new one though because I hate having to manually defrost it. There were also a couple of times the kids didn't close the door properly and it got very icy all around.

The physical shape of this freezer almost guarantees that this unit got stored/transported on it's side, despite any "This end up" signage on the box. It's a good idea to delay powering on such on appliance until it is upright again for awhile to allow oil to settle back into the compressor.
Yes, 24 hours in the upright position
