Community Reviews
The TX RZ30 is a 9 channel Onkyo receiver that stands out for HDMI 2.1, Dirac, and room to grow into a larger home theater. It gets praise for handling Apple TV, Plex, PS5 VRR, and 4K playback well, with flexible audio delay controls and strong value versus pricier Denon models. The main cautions are a reported audio sync problem in source to receiver to TV setups unless eARC is used, plus isolated reliability complaints like a dead front display and a loud power mode click. A capable midrange AVR if you want modern features without moving up to the higher tier.
The receiver can correct audio lag using its built-in audio delay with millisecond-level adjustment.
The receiver has reportedly handled AppleTV and Plex streaming without encountering the issues discussed in the thread.
The receiver supports HDMI 2.1 features like PS5 VRR passthrough and offers room for 9.2-channel expansion.
The receiver can be a capable option for a low-end theater setup when paired with a small or medium listening room.
Audio sync can fail for a source to receiver to TV chain unless eARC is used.
Customer service reportedly acknowledged a known audio-sync problem with an uncertain firmware fix timeline.
The front display can reportedly go dead after about six months and may require a lengthy trip to a repair shop.
The receiver may not pass 120Hz for VRR, which could require additional troubleshooting.

Real bummer coming from a 10 year old Yamaha workhorse. Just needed 4k, Dirac and all the stuff with the modern AV...
Going back, I'd probably grab a new Yamaha and not worry as much about Dirac, although it is very nice.
Reviews are weird on this one as some absolutely gush over it, but I had issues with Onkyo with the prior ownership.
I may have bitten on this without this and the replied comment, so much appreciated for taking the time to relate your experience here.

I setup up one of these and know another that owns it.
They both use a 4k player & Apple 4k.
It's been about 5 & 10 months with zero issues.
It's said to have this "limp mode" issue the other 2021 PAC units has.
I've had experience with pretty much all of them and never "heard" the issue.
You can go back and read all the PAC post on AVS and you won't find anyone else that "heard" it either.
Every brand has a failure rate so you need to read all those post with a grain of salt imo.

You could probably convince them to pay for the shipping there since its a warranty repair
Denon/Marantz has certainly paid for my unit to be shipped to them for repair..prior to them outright replacing the entire unit under warranty

Onkyo RZ50 failed..Denon X3800 failed
The Denon X4800 barely passed and he had a few less than stellar comments about its performance

I've never had any of the issues described in this thread. I cross-shopped the Denon X3800H and am so happy I went with this for $1000+ less $$.
Amir's reviews are interesting for a test lab; for real world use I think it's completely useless.

I dont think any AVR passes Amirs testing under about a $2500 MSRP

Not feelings.
You can see if the unit can provide the wattage promised.
You can see if the unit's distortion and dither are within the manufacture's specs.
It's just like when people say that Williston Audio Labs is too picky. Don't say that your amp can provide 4000w at .1% THD (unless it really can). Otherwise you get called out.
