10,159 June 10, 2010 at 05:17 PM in Grocery
A Five Guys burger joint just opened today in my area....the first in CA, I believe. I'm dying to go check it out. Maybe this weekend. Is all the hype justified?drool

Next time bring some of that vinegar home. I put it in the ketchup cups and then ask for tinfoil to wrap it so it doesn't spill in the car. It's so good, reminds me of the fries at the local fairs...so good.
I actually went out and bought a bottle of malt vinegar because I kept taking some home from there..lol

I haven't been there in awhile, I'm laying off fast food somewhat for the summer..Frown

To each his own, I guess. I think Red Robin's burgers are mediocre. I don't care for their fries and HATE the seasoning they put on them. Always ask for no seasoning when I go there. I don't like steak fries in general.
I agree with you about Red Robin. I absolutely hate their burgers. When they first put one here in Greenville, SC, they had this one "burger" that was made with pot roast - and it was awesome. Around 6 months later, they got rid of it. Their burgers are dry to me, and if you order it medium it has a weird taste Frown I absolutely refuse to eat there now. Not worth the money at all. Five guys though? Love them! Mmmmmmmmmm Smilie

I went to a Red Robin on a road trip one time. I wasn't impressed. It was kind of like a burger you can get at a Denny's or any other diner. The fries were just typical fries too.

I was able to check them out today. The burgers were pretty good. I like them more than In & Out.....juicer/thicker because they're handmade patties versus In & Out's which are flat, probably machined made patties, which are all the same size/thickness. As for the fries, I like them much more than In & Out fries. 5 Guys fries reminds me of Boardwalk Fries which aren't around anymore....maybe only on beach boardwalk areas now.
So was this the one over by Southern Lumber and where Frontier Village GE used to be...or did they open one by Jokerige Mall/Blossom Hill area?

I'm not sure exactly where it's at. But, the Five Guys website mentioned "The Plant" on Curtner near Monterey Road. So, it's in that vicinity. Southern Lumber is closer to Alma though. So, I think it's further down.

The Red Robin burger I had was just a plain burger with lettuce and tomato. It was okay....nothing special. I'm sure the Royal with a fried egg on it would be tasty!

When I do go to Red Robin and want a burger, I usually get their Bonzai Burger. Teriyaki sauce and pineapple. Not bad.

No idea exactly why, but I really love burgers topped with a fried egg really trips my trigger. Must be the runny yolk or something. YUM!

Five Guys is good if you're attempting to stop your heart. I dunno if I'd say they're overrated. I guess it depends on who you talk to. Some people get fanatic about certain fast food establishments, so in their case, its overrated.

In life, anything in moderation is okay. If someone was eating fatty fast food everyday of the week, then of course it's bad. However, once in awhile is totally fine.

I just tried it for the first time. Went to the location on Automall in Fremont. This would probably be the last time I go there.

First, its way too expensive. A regular burger with fries and a small drink for $10.40?Rofl2 Second, theres nothing special about their burgers. It tastes like any other burger you eat at a bbq. The only plus is that they give you huge portions. The fries are bland and don't have any real flavor.

In N Out is by far better than Five Guys. nod

I am from the East Coast and am living in the Bay Area now... I have had both and prefer In N Out.

Bay Area -- I drove by the new Five Guys today but did not go in. So many SDers in this location!

All you Bay Area people... a new Five Guys is going to open in Sunnyvale in the new shopping center across from Trader Joe's on the corner of El Camino and Sunnyvale-Saratoga. Whee
