trying to figure out why in the world this week's RA thread has 83 pages ... and I'm only on page 23 ...
Note: I don't RA, but I've read the chat thread since Christmas.

Must be the foster grant deal that was giving out extra $$ that is now dead.

Morning... woot for a 3 day weekend.

I have a neighbor that wanted me to show her how to use coupons. She got free Colgate Toothpaste at Wags a couple of weeks ago.

That is all I had to share with her. She ask if I had ever watched the EC show. Sorry dear, we can't buy $600 worth of groceries and pay .24 here. Just ain't gonna happen. I know she was disappointed in me.

Morning all. Yawn
I am able to do good deals at the commissary sometimes. That is mostly because they give overage by policy (the commissary cannot make a "profit" and keeping people's overage would be profiting) and because they let you special order products by the case.

With that being said - much of our good overage is disappearing as coupons change and as more people coupon.

I am still aggravated at Walmart because they accepted general RRs just long enough to get Walgreens to change their RRs - and RRs used to be a wonderful way to buy food at the commissary. But the commissary will only accept the ones that do NOT say "redeemable ONLY at..."

Still - deals do come along from time to time - but I calculate what I got for "free" differently than many people.

I count the cost of coupons against what I got "free." And I count the cost of something I bought that I didn't need against what I got "free."

Take K-Y. We can order it by the case at the commissary. (That doesn't guarantee your case will come in though...) K-Y is $1.92. A case of 72 cost $138.24. plus a 5% service charge ($6.91) = $145.15 At $3 for 20 coupons - 4 sets of coupons needed to purchase the case = $12.

So to me - my "free" groceries =
$216 - (72 x $3 coupons)
- $145.15 (cost of KY I didn't need)
- $12 (cost of coupons)
= $58.85

So I would count that as - I got $58 worth of free groceries. Some other people would count all the KY (they didn't need) and report that they got $216 worth of free groceries.

Considering the fact it took 18 transactions to get the $58 worth of free stuff - that is a lot of work. laugh out loud

Some people have reported they even determine the exact amount of overage per 4 and have the butcher make them meat packets that are exactly that amount. I am not going to ask the butcher to make me $3.92 cent meat packages. I figure if I pick up a package of meat that costs $4.20 - and pay .28 cents OOP - I have done good enough, without requiring people to package my meat in a way that I get it totally free...

afternoon b/c it's not morning anymore.

Oh yes, we have a SNS lol, I never go there, yes maybe we could be shoprite buddies, ps tried to roll the cat at SR no go ...rats , I only wanted 4 deals ... sigh .

Now I'm goona go read what you wrote over there:lol

I think my cat would like to be your best friend Got Tuna ???
was busy stirring the pot this morning.

and got permission from my bff to use her ppc since she's going away this wknd and not going to shoprite.

You'd have to read 50+ pages to understand the issue.

It's Bunnies chat thread.
you are such a tease! can't you just give us all a recap of the issue and then a link to the thread? then we can all go over the juicy details. i'm sure this thread would then get more active. this thread slowed down b/c the deals at target have slowed down and we can't talk about shenanigans here anymore. so that just leaves entertainment.

Quote from reg036 :
wave Just intruding in here as I just have to agree the RA chat has gotten way to hard to keep up with and i just skipped over 200 posts and decided to not even rread them.

Slowtech, the Lipton plastic teas did work, so did the regular Sobes at Shoprite.

Also don't forget the Wags threads got a little tense for a while and one did get locked down. Not sure what's going on with everyone.........seasonal mood disorder???

Alright back to my lurking mode!
welcome! we need more chatting and less lurking!

i bought 8 lipton pureleaf glass bottles and 2 plastic ones. my shoprite has a skid of pureleaf so i'm going to go back using my bff and mil's phone numbers. sent an email to sil to see if she's going to do the deal this wknd or not.

i didn't jump on the deal b/c i'd read all those posts about low or no stock and i usually wait till at least wed to do the 4 day deals.

went thurs and was a day late to roll the deal.

Quote from cathi4savings :
Got my "plastic" lipton teas all that was left in that flavor was citus,
and lemon don't know if there was another in plastic, but hey I'm happy with that didn't get the sobe as usual I was late and they had stopped rolling...sigh .

Didn't jump on it and I shpold have known better.
i actually prefer the glass pureleaf b/c it's black tea instead of green. i did get 2 pomegranate berry whatever plastic.

what is the big deal about the plastic other than it's 20oz instead of 16? the pureleaf is real tea w/ antioxidants supposedly.

yeah, any rolling cat deal at shoprite needs to be jumped on right away. we have lots of drinks, inc mp juice boxes so i wasn't eager to use a gallon of gas to find out they didn't have 10 bottles in the whole store. i'll be happy w/ a couple deals, maybe total 4 w/ my in-laws phone numbers.

I feel that way about the CVS threads sometimes. I know I miss some good deals there because I get worn out trying to read all the threads and then just skip CVS that week.

I seem to do better with the Barney style deals there. I know they are not as good as some of the non-Barney deals - but they are better than not doing any deals at all. (sometimes).

i gave up on cvs 2+ yrs ago b/c i was just buying stuff i don't need and struggling to use my ecbs. i would cash out by buying tide for my neighbor to resell when it was around 4.99 but then it just became me going to cvs just to buy tide. not worth the time and effort. now i just follow the cvs clearance thread but the deals are not so great there anymore either. they've gotten a lot smarter.

i think i'm getting ganged up on in the shoprite thread, as usual by a lurker who came out to smash and grab and thinks he's making major contributions to the thread and a relative newbie who had the lightbulb turned on about multiple loyalty cards by the lurker so they could also smash and grab.

I have got to have my car serviced today and buy new tires for it. It is 25,000 mile service and cost is around $500. Tires should be about $200 ea. I hate, hate to spend that kind of money but must have my wheels.

new tires now is kinda early unless they didn't give you 50 - 60,000 mile tires? my car is around 110,000 miles and this 2nd set of tires they said should last till next fall.

have you shopped around for the tires? do you have a costco? pep boys? sometimes they have sales around here buy 3 tires, get the 4th free. there may be sales this long wknd.

i know many guys like tire rack but i did the math and if you have to pay to get the tires installed, etc, i didn't see any savings b/c you then don't get free tire rotation and balancing thereafter like costco and sears.

When I have the time I can find some pretty good deals at CVS - but having the time is a major problem... I hit them for a few weeks - and then take a few months off - lol
Luckily - as store in my area takes expired ECBs - regardless of the date - I can spend my ecbs later.

But the deals have definitely gotten slimmer at CVS. $1 ECBs are not worth driving there for. And sometimes - though you can put deals together - it takes a rocket scientist to do so. And it requires constantly reading to see if this item counts and that coupon works - and if you can buy all the things together - or it you have to buy them two at a time to get them to count - etc. etc. etc...

Anymore, I think it is easier to just stop by hoping they have run out of something - and picking up a rain check to redeem at your leisure....

- which actually is another thing that ticks me off... Why is a person getting a rain check less important than a person purchasing something. If you go in the store and are inconvenienced by them being out of the item - they usually decide to write your rain check AFTER they have checked everyone else out.

I don't understand why it is considered better customer service to make the person who needs the rain check wait than it is to make the other customers wait.

I don't mind waiting while they take the next person or two in line. But dang - sometimes they will have you stand there and wait while people who didn't even enter the store until after you have waited awhile get checked out.

I know they just think - Oh I will take care of this other person first - But when a parade comes in and starts heading to the cash register - Write the rain check for the person who has been waiting before taking care of all the folks who have to stand there for 10 minutes deciding what brand of cigarettes they want!

I overestimated tires. Just $123. Ea. Only need 3. They are telling me tire manufacturers are not stating anything over 25,000 miles anymore cause of lawsuits.

No big service bill either. Just oil change and such.

Later.

Well, that's better than $200 per tire!

I was just going to post that. If you aren't replacing all 4 tires, replace two now (I was told to replace the front axle first), and then 2 later. Always in pairs. Smilie
