Pizza delivery guy didn't accept my tip. Was he trying to send a message?

I was visiting San Francisco recently and ordered a pizza and salad from a local restaurant. The delivery guy was in his mid 40's. I only tried to tip him a dollar, but he just said no thanks. I said are you sure, and he declined the tip again. He was friendly and respectful about it. After he left, I started to think that I offered too small of a tip. The bill was around $20, and I just gave my normal Domino's tip. I was thinking maybe he was offended by such a small tip. I should have tipped him around $3. I've never had someone not take money from me. Is a dollar tip offensive to a delivery guy?

What if the pizza place took too long to make the pizza and he came and delivered it right after they boxed it?
Should you be cheap on his tip when the reason why your pizza was late is out of his/her hands?
as for the hosts/hostesses getting tipped out by servers...i dont agree with that.
NEVER....NEVER go there again!!!!
I like the theory that the servers should be paid a fair wage and the way of expressing gratitude comes in repeat business... without the customer feeling it's their responsibility to take care of the employees.
Are taxes on tips the same as taxes on wages?

Secondly, the reason why the person may not have taken your tip is cause he works as management, and some places don't allow mamagers to accept tips.
BTW, a word of note: If you are incurred a delievery charge(most of the major pizzas chains now charge a delivery fee of up to $2), the money doesn't go to the driver. So don't be a jerk & not tip your driver accordingly.
And as far as you snide remark about taking care of employees, if you rather not tip a driver, you could always simply just stiff them, or better yet, take your fat *ss over to where you ordered & pick it up. Delivery drivers are out there for you, not the other way around. Most have to use their tips in insurance, maintence of their vehicles & gasoline(which is $3-4/gallon right now.)

Again, if the delivery guy isn't making enough money that's between him and his employer. The customer has nothing do with it and has zero responsibility to rectify the situation if the driver is not earning enough.
If at all possible, if it's not the drivers fault, you should tip accordingly, & ask the driver to have the manager call you about the problem if its a serious issue, or otherwise take up your issue with the manager the following day.

If you dont want to give the driver a tip, no one is putting a gun to your head. Thats your choice if you want to be a cheap ****. I will guarentee they will remember you in the future, that's for sure. But again, you could always take your fat *ss over there & go pick it up if you rather not tip a driver.
