Fall 2011 new TV shows (((new update about Awake on post 185)))

So what do you think about the new shows so far?

I like New Girl, it was a bit awkward and slow at the beginning but by the end of the show, I was hooked. There were some funny jokes and good casting. I love the Small spoiler:

Two Broke Girls
, I made the mistake of watching a short clip online about a week ago and thought it looked terrible but DH set it to tape. Turns out the short clip was the least funny line in the whole show, the rest of the show was witty and downright funny.

Unforgettable
, meh. I'll watch one more because DH wants to, but wasn't that fussed over it. There were a couple of really annoying points in the show. Huge spoiler:

Free Agents
, really liked this one. Good cast and a really good pilot. Just hope they can keep it up without it becoming tired.

The Secret Circle
. Typical trying to cash in on Twilight show, only with witches. Couldn't get through one episode.

Same thing with Ringer, had to turn it off part way through the pilot.

Some shows I'm looking forward to, haven't aired yet....

Awake (no air date at this time but the trailer is really interesting and the lead actor is one of my faves, he's British)
Grimm (trailer looks good, even though the premise sounds silly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh3rFsv_WSE it airs 10/28, date changed)
Pan Am (Like Madmen in the air?Dontknow airs 9/25)
Person of Interest (the trailer looks really good, interesting premise airs 9/21)
Prime Suspect (there's a British Show by the same name, so I guess they're doing an American version Dontknow Airs 9/22)

FTFY. I haven't watched Homeland. Might try to catch up.

Was so glad to hear Suits has been renewed (Summer 2012) as it's really good. Not your typical show about lawyers, at all.
Doh - and thanks!

Suits is everything that Franklin & Bash should have been.

I am not liking the 2 new trainers on this season's Biggest Loser. I hope Bob's team eliminates everyone on the blue and red teams.
Isn't Kournikova one of the new trainers?

New Girl has taken a SERIOUS step backwards since damon wayans jr left. Not only was he a great character, but the new guy is a BAD character, so it's a big swing.

I'm still hanging in there on pan am and person of interest, but they're nothing special. I'm just catching up on weekends. Gave up on Unforgettable, not that I don't think it will last I just don't like it that much.

Terra Nova, I won't miss. It's good.
Totally agree on New Girl. It was bad from the get go, but Wayans was always funny in it. Its a tossup who is more annoying on that show now, Jess or Schmidt. Nick is the only one who is halfway decent.

Pan Am I think is getting better. At least it is getting more interesting. And since Sunday is a pretty dead night, it gets watched. Person of Interest is, I think, the best new drama of the season.
Terra Nova, I do not watch. premise doesnt interest me.

We are behind on watching New Girl as DH has been working late. I gave up on Pan Am but I think DH plans to watch more.

Unforgettable, really isn't. laugh out loud

Terra Nova, DH likes it but I'm still deciding. It has potential as long as it doesn't turn into a soap opera.

BBCA has started airing the UK version of Free Agents. It's a lot raunchier than the US version but BBCA is bleeping out the good bits. Annoyed The UK version reminds me a little of Coupling.

I like Prime Suspect, they're doing a good job with the plot line. The thing that annoys me is her makeup, it's hideous and makes her look like old leather. They need to fire the makeup artist. That and the hat, lose the hat!

Person of Interest is really good, I would highly recommend it but you have to watch it from the start or you'll be lost.

Unforgettable really isnt. I agree.
I actually like the US Free Agents better than the new WIll Arnett comedy.
Prime Suspect is growing on me. They are progressing the plotline enough to hold my interest. I dont much mind the hat though. Think it adds to her character. All the memorable TV detectives had their trademark "thing". Kojak had lollipops, Sipowicz had his short sleeve shirts, Columbo had his rumpled overcoat, etc.

Homefront is showing promise. Fingers cross that it doesn't get too Jack Bauer-ish.

I liked Suits a lot too.
Watched the pilot last night. Looks good. Will watch the 2nd episode this evening.

Also really like Person of Interest. All episodes I have seen have been really good.

Terra Nova shows some promise.

I wasn't interested in the premise either but DH wanted to watch it and it's not bad, so far. It's sort of like Jurassic Park meets Land of the Lost meets Daktari, with a dash of Stargate Universe thrown in for good measure.

The sets are well done, they're spending an absolute fortune on the series.

Every time I DVR HIMYM, I get the first minute or so of 2 Broke Girls. Looks like the worst show ever. At least one joke in that short period of time trying to make fun of hipsters and some image of Brooklyn like it was 20 years ago.

I really like it. Not all of the jokes work but overall, it's a great show. My concern is that it will get old/repetitive fast but so far, so good. The ratings must be good as CBS has picked it up for a full season.

Part of the reason that I didnt start watching it. It's so expensive, plus the premise made it sound like a show that would be on the bubble almost immediately. With the cost, I didnt want to get hooked to have it canceled early. Of course, since I am not watching it, it will be the new Lost.

Agreed. It is alot crasser than I was expecting, but I think it works. The chemistry between Kat and Beth is great. I dont know about some of the minor characters though. Oleg,a dn the little Asian guy. The old black guy is a riot. Had some great lines in the last episode.

i now very rarely start watching shows until they've lasted at least a season and a half. three reasons:
  1. t's so easy to get back episodes now.
  2. it keeps me from getting invested in a show only to have it cancelled abruptly, meaning no closure/decent finale.
  3. i avoid shows that see high critical/viewer praise for the first half of the season, but spiral down in the second half and make those who loved the earlier episodes watch a bunch of crap in the hope that things might get back on track (see: Killing, The).
an extreme example: i'm just trying out Rescue Me. of course, every once in a while, a Boardwalk Empire comes around and i jump on after the first episode.

Watched Terra Nova, and I learned that bullets are totally ineffective against dinosaurs.
Missed the first episode, I'll catch it online when I get a chance. Just wondering what caliber are they using? I always figured a .50BMG would be pretty effective against dinos. Big Grin
You may be right, finally saw the episode and they appeared to be using .50s.

I've been watching the show, mostly because there's nothing else on, and didn't even notice a character had left the show. Guess that shows how interested I am.

Good point, and IT IS FOX, who's pretty quick with the cancellation axe.

I read an article about it yesterday, too lazy to go find it. Anyway, they said the cost of the 33 (IIRC) sets was so expensive that the network went ahead and authorized a full season, rather than just a pilot. It would have been too prohibitive to do a pilot then have to go back, reassemble the sets and do more episodes. It was filmed in Queensland.

Wait, what about Zombie dinosaurs? Would bullets work then? Scratchchin

Was not that fussed on Pan Am or Playboy Club. Of course DH, being a guy, wants to give them another try.

Person of Interest and Prime Suspect were both really good. Set up a season pass for them.

Zombie dinosaurs would be unstoppable, since you have to destroy the brain, and dinosaurs brains are the size of a pea inside a thick skull. Tanks might stand a chance, one on one. Or battleships.
