Fall 2011 new TV shows (((new update about Awake on post 185)))

So what do you think about the new shows so far?

I like New Girl, it was a bit awkward and slow at the beginning but by the end of the show, I was hooked. There were some funny jokes and good casting. I love the Small spoiler:

Two Broke Girls
, I made the mistake of watching a short clip online about a week ago and thought it looked terrible but DH set it to tape. Turns out the short clip was the least funny line in the whole show, the rest of the show was witty and downright funny.

Unforgettable
, meh. I'll watch one more because DH wants to, but wasn't that fussed over it. There were a couple of really annoying points in the show. Huge spoiler:

Free Agents
, really liked this one. Good cast and a really good pilot. Just hope they can keep it up without it becoming tired.

The Secret Circle
. Typical trying to cash in on Twilight show, only with witches. Couldn't get through one episode.

Same thing with Ringer, had to turn it off part way through the pilot.

Some shows I'm looking forward to, haven't aired yet....

Awake (no air date at this time but the trailer is really interesting and the lead actor is one of my faves, he's British)
Grimm (trailer looks good, even though the premise sounds silly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh3rFsv_WSE it airs 10/28, date changed)
Pan Am (Like Madmen in the air?Dontknow airs 9/25)
Person of Interest (the trailer looks really good, interesting premise airs 9/21)
Prime Suspect (there's a British Show by the same name, so I guess they're doing an American version Dontknow Airs 9/22)

I watched Once Upon A Time last night. I'm not sure what I think of it. I wasn't really planning on watching it. I just happened to see a commercial saying it was coming on last night while I was on another channel, so I stayed to watch it.

I think I need another episode to get into it. Right now it is just not interesting enough, in my opinion...
I have it on tivo. Maybe I'll watch it today. It's a conflict with Amazing Race and The Next Iron Chef (starts next week on 10/30) so it might have to go unless it's just great.

Anyone have any opionions on Kelsey Grammer aka Fraiser's new show Boss or Enlightened on Showtime?
Yeah, I kind of like Enlightened. It's by Mike White, who makes kind of funny, mediocre movies.

btw, it's on HBO.

I watched the trailer for Once Upon A Time but it didn't look anywhere near as good as the trailer for Grimm did.

Watched Once Upon A Time with DW last night and we both really enjoyed it. The hook was reasonable enough and seeing the fairy tale characters and personalities brought into "real world" people and even humans was quite fun. My issues were that the names were pretty unimaginative, but I somewhat expect a frying pan to the head obviousness for an 8PM Sunday show on ABC, but having Vancouver stand in for Maine (even fictional) was a bit much for my taste. Overall, it'll stay on the DVR list until it's cancelled or goes too LOST-ified (a serious possibility with 2 writing alums), but thanks for the reminder of Ultimate Iron Chef next week (love having 4 tuners)

That said, we have Grimm set to record Friday and that's the one that I'm really looking forward to watching.

I just didn't like the pace, felt like watching standup...
There is something weird about the pacing on the show. A couple of times I have noticed weird pauses before punchlines on this show.

I too watched Once Upon a Time last night. I was really looking forward to this and Grimm. I enjoyed it. Dr. Cameron looked drop dead in that red dress. I like the premise, liked the setup and like many of the actors. The kid I found very tough to understand at times. I think this show could be something if it is allowed the time to develop. Of course, it cant take too long or it wont stand a chance. THe time slot it is in is pretty barren, so I will season pass it.

Someone in one of the TV/movie threads had mentioned "The Killing" - I just finished season 1 last night.

Man did that have a great first episode or two and the last couple were decent, but the middle of the season was really lame. It could have been a great 5-6 episode season instead of 13....the middle episodes were all about throwing the viewer one red herring per week - that got old quick.

I'll check out season 2, but unless it starts strong I'm out (that could be tough, since season 1 was supposedly a partial remake of a European version from a few years back.)

One of my favorite "off-season" shows. But I agree there were some lame episodes in the middle. I hope season 2 comes on strong and stays that way.

I've not watched any of the new shows. If I were to pick one, which one should it be?

Prime Suspect if you want a gritty crime drama. Person of Interest if you miss the weird guy from Lost. Revenge if you miss the 80's night-time soaps.

Thanks. Of the three, Prime Suspect may be my cup of tea. Any good comedies? I just realized I've no regularly watched or DVR'ed any good comedies since a long time now. The last ones on my DVR are the Seinfeld reruns...

New comedies? Nothing particularly great in this year's crop.

Up All Night isn't bad, especially if newly married and want birth control or newly parenting.

Last Man Standing with Tim Allen is pretty much Home Improvement with female kids and the concierge from Pretty Woman instead of Wilson

Man Up was pretty repulsive and likely won't make it through Nov. sweeps.

But, I can't comment on the returning comedy shows - we missed the start of Modern Family, Community, and the other good shows from last year and aren't about to add to a too-long list of shows that we record. But, supposedly both of those are fall off your chair funny at times.

My pick would be Person of Interest. Although Grimm starts on 10/28 and the preview trailer for it looks really good.

I like Two Broke Girls but it's not everyone's sort of thing. As another lounger said, it's more like situational standup comedy than a show with a storyline but then so was a lot of Seinfeld.

As far as Prime Suspect, lots of people in this thread like it but the original UK version with Helen Mirren is so much better. If you can get it, watch the original instead.
