Official 2011-12 NHL Thread - Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings!

Hockey is back! After a summer of tragedy, it's time to drop the puck!

Who's the Cup favorite? Who made the best off season moves? When will Crosby return? When will Doughty sign?

And to start off the season, Mike Modano officially retired yesterday.

2012-13 SCHEDULES ARE UP!!!!!! Whee

OCTOBER 12TH, CLIVEFROG, OCTOBER 12TH! Against NYR, interestingly. Hm. Ugh, the home opener seems so far away... someone speed up time for me, please.
Seen they posted the schedules, I'm still having a hard time believing that the season will start in October though, but here is to wishful thinking.

Very true, but I'm determined. Somehow, I will be there.

Reports that Jordan Staal rejected a 10 year contract from the Pens. I guess he doesn't want to be there that long?

Whoever is in charge of scheduling for the NHL draft is terrible at their job. Only giving 2 hours for the first round on NBC Sports Network, like they weren't going to go over that by a lot. Then switching over to CNBC for an hour. Then switching over to NHL Network (a channel my service provider doesn't carry) for the rest. A person should not have to switch to 3 different channels to watch 1 round of a draft. Ridiculous! Mad

Two big deals yesterday: Washington got Mike Ribiero from Dallas, and Jordan Staal went to Carolina.

Rumors are flying that Luongo will get traded. Two places mentioned are Florida and Toronto.

I love that deal sending Ribero to the Caps. Think it makes them that much better, I expect them to do some good things next year with adding him, but I also expect Carlson to have an outstanding year as well.

As for my beloved Pens, Dontknow. Word is Sutter isn't liking the idea too much, but lets hope he comes around. Didn't like the kid they took 8th, wished they could have grabbed a forward, would imagine it must have been hard to pass on that Forsberg kid.

Rumors on the street is that Crosby is going to sign soon for a 9-10 year deal at $9/year. Love the kid, but that is a bit long with the issues he has been having. Also talks of Pitt making a push at Parise since they are clearing up all this cap space, but I think everyone is making a push at him, as mentioned earlier.

The Caps needed a 2nd line Center. Ribiero fills that hole for sure. They also need a replacement for Semin since I think he's gone.

Pittsburgh won't have enough to sign Parise, and at the same time he'd be crazy to sign there. Pitt has 2 elite centers already, and Staal didn't want to sign long term becuase he knew he wouldn't get as much playing time. Parise is going to go to the highest bidder. I could see a team like Florida pushing for him. They need an elite center (Fleischmann just isn't going to cut it). Phoenix might as well since they may lose Shane Doan to free agency. Same with a team like Winnipeg or Calgary - they all need centers.

July 1 is going to be interesting to say the least!

I agree money wise that they don't have it for Parise, but I guess him and Crosby are BFFL's or something, and they are hoping on that coming through. Seems unlikely, but it is nice to have some options out there with the cap space. Now if they could just send Martin off to sea...
