You are always siding with the rich, hanging off the nuts of corporations and shit. Taxes, regulations = bad, job creators = good, Ronald Reagan = God... you know, shit like only rich white people would do.

Nothing can be done. As long as poor people are poor and minorities aren't white, they won't have a say or have enough power to change anything.
I had a fairly educated guess before, but now I see exactly where you're coming from...

I now read all of DBC's posts in Barney Frank's voice in my head. It puts his posts in the proper context and the added entertainment value is priceless.

Hey!!!! Where are the officer's PEPPER SPRAY AND BATONS???

Not there Woot because the officers were giving orders to a bunch of uncompliant morons to move and protest in a legal area.
They actually look rather baffled and confused at the request. Take a good look at them. They had their chance but had to stay badass Thumbup

Moral of my post: Don't post BS pictures here without any facts proving that the protesters you randomly found on the internet were breaking any laws. Go pull that crap in the podium.

I keep thinking you guys are referring to Ref because he made up the acronym "OWS" years ago for reference to himself - "old wrinkly sausage."

Although reading everyone's posts that way has been quite amusing... Coverlaugh

Especially this post. LMAO

Also, it's funny how the cop defenders also justify the abuse by claiming the students were "Brats", "dirty hippies", "lazy", etc.. I guess that entitles the government to use excessive violence?
That's more what I was talking about.

This Occupy LA thing's about to get interesting. The LAPD are all geared up and about to move in to "evict" everyone. I'm currently watching a live stream of the events...

Quote from PaintTheSkyGrey :
As Landers said, where's the (hypothetical) handicapped person that was complaining when I parked in a (hypothetical) handicap spot? Why would I still get a ticket?
1. Parking in a handicapped spot has nothing to do with the right to assembly
2. If a cop sees someone in a handicap parking spot without a sticker.. 100% of the time, he will ticket that person. How often are people arrested for "blocking a sidewalk"?
One is a legitimate crime.. the other is a trumped up charge to justify the police using violence to break up a peaceful assembly.

Quote :
Are we having a state-the-obvious contest now?
No, we are having a situation where people disagree with the "occupy" protestors, therefore they take pleasure in seeing excessive violence used in a peaceful demonstration. I really don't care if they are protesting that water is wet.. What they are protesting doesn't matter. It's sad that so many people accept the college admin and police OVER REACTION to this.

Quote :
No one claimed it's a heinous crime. However, it's still a crime. It still deprives others from the liberties they have a right to.
laugh out loud Ok, what liberty was being deprived.. What they did happens every day.. Ever walk on the sidewalk and see 4 people talking, and blocking the sidewalk.. Do you call the cops because your sidewalk right was violated.. this whole thing is silly.. The cops claim they were blocking the sidewalk.. Who did they block? If they were stopping people from getting to class, etc believe me, that would've been news.

Quote :
I didn't see anyone pick a fight. I saw them calmly ask the protestors to leave, the protestors resisted,
The admins picked a fight. They looked out their window, got tired of the students peaceful assembly and decided to bring the cops in to disperse the crowd. Just because some tightass in an ivory tower is tired of seeing a tent doesn't mean that people's right to assemble should be trampled on.. it's certianly not a justification for the cops to come in and make demands that the kids disperse and then use violence. [/quote]

Like I said, if there was a pink tent on the quad and they were having a camp-a-thon to raise money for breast cancer, I doubt the cops get called.

Quote from Landers :
So it takes someone to complain in order for something to be illegal? I made this point earlier in the thread, by that logic I can park in a handicapped parking spot as long as no one bitches about it.

And again, if you had read the farking thread instead of just instigating, you'd know that the crime they were committing had ZERO to do with the use of force. They were actively resisting arrest and wouldn't move peacefully so the next option was used and used effectively.

Please, if you're going to argue, at least make it intelligent..
Please folllow your own advice about constructing intelligent replies. laugh out loud

I explained to PainttheSkyGrey the difference between parking in a handicap spot and the bogus charge of "blocking the sidewalk".. but if you need more clarification.. If someone parked in a handicap spot and was pepper sprayed for it, I would be upset with the excessive force too.

Go park your car by a red curb and tell the police officer that there is no fire, when he asks you to move. Now make sure not to move your car no matter how many times he asks.

And if I refuse to move my car, it will be towed or ticketed.
I don't think I will be pepper sprayed or even threatened with violence.

"Peaceful" is used in this situation to try and mask the fact that this group was breaking the law. Peaceful does not equal lawful.

Penal Code 409 states:

Every person remaining present at the place of any riot, rout,
or unlawful assembly, after the same has been lawfully warned to
disperse, except public officers and persons assisting them in
attempting to disperse the same, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

Why is it ok for them not to obey the order to "move to a designated area" that is lawful to protest?

Why should they be allowed to break the law? What example does that set for future protests?

Why didn't they move and continue to protest?

They KNEW they were breaking the law.....otherwise they would have no reason to lock their arms (passive resistance).

So what should have the officers have employed as the next tactic to move these people? Manual pain tactics? Believe me, whatever they chose to do, the group still would have been crying brutality.

Iagree Good luck with that.

I wonder why they would even have this stuff prepared? They couldn't possibly be planning to protest unlawfully Scratchchin
