RECALL: Excedrin®, NoDoz®, Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products

408 1,133 January 9, 2012 at 05:10 AM in Grocery (7) Rite Aid
http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/index.html

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin® and NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States.

NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.

As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Consumers also may click here to obtain a form to obtain a refund.

These actions have been communicated to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are working closely with the FDA and will continue to do so throughout this process.

Additional information may also be found on the FDA website at www.fda.gov.

*Update* I just got off the phone with the rebate center, finally got through. For the opened meds he took the down the lot # expiration date, product name and count. He said I will be getting fair market value on these items. Note* a few of the opened items were expired I don't know what they will give me for fair market value on those, didn't say. I asked what fair market value was and he said he didn't know.

For the items that are in boxes I have to send in the upc with the form he told me to attached separate sheet with the items listed because there isn't enough room on the original sheet. I will be taking a pic of all my upc's and form for future reference. He also said that they would only give $2 for postage. I asked if he could just take all the information over the phone he told me no I would have to mail them in.

when you return these to CVS without reciept do they track with your ID or extra card? would rather make a few small trips than mail stuff back, but if they're tracking and I'm going to get turned down for doing too many I'd rather know in advance.

I took one in last night and they didn't scan my card, just gave me a money card. Not sure what they'd do if I bring in more. Why don't you call and ask if they have a limit?

Nope, they don't scan your card. They only do that for returns with receipts.

And normally they ask for your Drivers License and Phone Number, this time they just had my sign the form that prints out from the register. And they made note of the recalled products, and got my GC. Easy peasy.

I don't think that it is a matter of not going by air, they are just telling you don't ship it USPS Express, or UPS Next Day Air because you won't get reimbursed for that, just send it USPS First Class if possible, then Priority Mail or Parcel Post if it weighs too much for First Class, or use UPS Ground or the cheapest FedEx option. Don't go crazy sending it next day earliest arrival for $50 and you will be fine.

Quote from Shellac :
When shipping with USPS you can request that a package go by ground only. Some items cannot go by air per USPS rules like liquids, flammable items, etc. I don't know if these medications are required to go by ground only but if the company says to use ground shipping then perhaps they cannot go by air for some reason.

Rules on mailing medication are found somewhere on this page:

http://pe.usps.com/text/pub52/welcome.htm

I realize nobody will read this.

Returned some Gas-X prevention to Albertsons today.
They gave me 6.89 each plus tax which is a lot easier for me than returning them to the manufacturer.
They did not ask for ID or anything and gave me cash.
When I tried returning them to Vons (Safeway) they said when they scanned them in their system it came up as recalled and they could not refund me because they did not know how much they were---all they knew was they came up as recalled. Sadly that was the store manager that told me that.
It never ceases to amaze me how incredibly dense they are in Vons.

I have the same bonus pack. Check the UPCs of the boxes: mine had stickers over the "normal" UPCs for the products.

Apparently the Novartis recall site was updated since I'd last visited it (big surprise). Now they specifically say "All lots of listed Excedrin® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier are included in this recall (except for 2, 6 or 10 count packages)."

So based on that I can't tell whether the 8 pack is eligible or not Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

But beware even that list isn't accurate or there is conflicting info. They listed Excedrin Menstrual on one list and yet it's not included in the list on that PDF. So who knows!
