Another theory on obesity

There are many theories on the causes of obesity. Some say too much fat, too many calories. Ironically, many of the modern diets have generally failed to fix the problem.

The above video is long. For people who will reply with tl;dr here is the synopsis:

Watch it if you get a chance. I really enjoyed it and found it both eye opening and informative, without needing some shock factor or sex to sell it. It follows a simple premise and makes a lot of sense.

For my personal experience changing your eating habits and exercise simple. I went all natural all I did was eat less and eat more healthy (cut soda big time I drink rarely) and exercise a lot atleast 5 times a week for around 45 minutes.

I didn't take any pills or any type of supplements to make me lose weight. I have lost 55 pounds till this date and proud of it. Problem I believe is the eating habits as I saw a bit of the video you need to cut sugars eat more veggies and drink a hell of a lot more water.

Me too.....and at my age it takes a lot more work to allow me to eat it.

I have no problem spending an extra 10 or 15 minutes in the gym if it gets me a nice big greasy burger. laugh out loud

I tried watching the video but it's 90 minutes long. I would have given them the chance to state their argument but not at the expense of an hour and a half of my time.

I stated my argument in just 1 post and it's more believable then the sugar conspiracy.
It's not so much a conspiracy as it is a trend in thinking that started in the 1970s. Mohater's attempt to summarize the video is lacking b/c of the complexity of the argument and length of the account. It's not mohater's fault... most summaries would be lacking.

Your greasy burger is beneficial to you b/c the fat in the meat fills you up, and tells your brain you are full, then you stop eating. The bun you eat it on is basically poison. Some people can tolerate more poison than others. (This also speaks to your later posts defending the sugar in your own diet.)

Now allow me to attempt a summary, that will also be lacking... The US government bought into a heart disease study of various nations from the 1970s that improperly correlated saturated fat in diets with heart disease... yet the two outlier nations who had high fat diets and low heart disease were ignored by scientists and the government bureaucracy. The 35 years since have seen an explosion in obesity not only b/c of the sedentary nature of our lives, but also b/c of the quality of our food, and its contents. The low fat craze is part of the problem. Low fat products take out the fat and replaced it with more carbs... carbs make you hungry and insulin resistant (over time), and you eat more b/c the blood sugar spikes and then falls flat. Fat makes people feel full.

As we replaced fat in our diets with refined carbohydrates and other processed components, people just kept getting fatter. Some people might be able to exercise enough to mitigate the effects of one sandwich a week... but every day, along with a Dr Pepper? Hard to do.

I think herpes and aids have made more people want to just sit around instead of going out and looking to poke someone, anyone or anything.

I came across this article, and thought this is the perfect place for it

*I'm not saying that's it, BPA is causing obesity (as OP did with regards to sugar), but this is another reason I'm not going to watch a 90 minute video Stick Out Tongue

The reason Atkins is "bad" is because it sends your body into ketosis...which basically means your body is in starvation mode.
Could you end up being in danger of ketoacidosis if you eat like, no carbs?

Quote from beanqueen :
How do you mean better? It doesn't get digested by your body, (therefore no caloric intake) you just poop it straight out. Sucrolose (splenda) does replace 2 of the hydroxyl groups on sucrose with Cl's which makes it indigestible. It hasn't really shown any problems health-wise, so as a sugar substitute it's pretty good and you don't need a lot to make something sweet.

I don't care for aspartame (mainly just taste-wise) but it can break down into methanol and formaldehyde...but it exits your system before that happens. I still think it's gross though...

I'm always a fan of regular sucrose, but I'd rather sucralose for complete calorie free stuff. Saccharin is calorie free but to keep it stable most add maltodextrin to it which has calories.

I always go by everything in moderation, so if your replacing sugar in your coffee or tea with sucralose then that should be fine, but don't go baking tons of sweets and stuff with it and eat all of it often and think you'll be fine.
Does it scare you that there's no long-term research on these items so we have no idea what the future implications of these chemical substitutes will be on people's bodies? I hate all of them and pretty much avoid them like the plague.

yeah sugar is in everything and let me clarify refined sugar, fruit sugars, also people are lazy we used to have to work for well everything. now we dont as a group at least work for anything. our work consists of getting in the car to go to walmart for food. minor simple changes can be made to prevent this but people are lazy so that will never happen.

i know a guy who for whatever reason still eats fast food at least once a day. but he works out for several hours every other day, perfect shape hell no but better than 99% of you of course not because he eats healthy but because he works out and does shit for a few hours almost every day.
of course you can but you have to be in the .000000000000000001% who actually get the physical activity they need. for most people the only work they do is walking to and from the car and to and from the fridge... not hard to see the problem here.

You eat fiber though, so you shit it all out Dontknow
please show me 1 study, which i know you cant because it doesn't exist, that proves eating fiber causes you to not to absorb things like sugar.... WOW.
