"Not the ones currently paying zero"...key word there is "currently" because if you were to get sick and have to go through procedures hundreds of thousands of dollars ( hip replacement surgery alone costs $110,000 I believe?) you would get that surgery but then guess who would pay for it at the end? Not you (unless you are one of the few who has that kind of money that's easily accessible), but us. Our premiums would go up.
It's the free rider problem.
Hip replacement surgery alone costs $110,000, so a person making $25K a year who pays a $600 fine will still be a free rider since that amount won't pay for much of anything medically.
How does this solve the free rider problem?
People don't want to pay that $30-50 copay for nothing.
Man, you are such a ignorant person.
80% of people are welfare are white and black folks. Most immigrants today are Asian and Hispanic.
Most free riders are conservatives living in conservative leaning states.

You will still have free riders, but hopefully it will be offset by what the polling data suggest.
The difference in HEALTH risk between a 21 year old and a 45 year old is MUCH larger proportionally.
then extrapolated from a 45 year old to a 65 year old and you see the humongous difference.
If you can't see the difference you are ignorant to the effects of age on health or just burying your head in the sand.
You think everyone on the road pays the same car insurance rate.

This. That's a myth that's been addressed about how if people have free health care, they will abuse the system and want to hang out at hospitals. Or something.
Not supported by anything I've read. If someone has something, be glad to read it.
That's like measuring the number of poor people by how many apply for medicaid or food stamps. Lots of poor people are ignorant and don't know they qualify.
5% charity by those concerned still would've done the trick.

No matter white, black, yellow or blue. As long as they work hard to create social wealth and pays taxes, ther shall not be consider as free riders. And we shall respect these old people who dedicated their life to created the country we are living in today, they shall not be consider as free riders. These veterans, who fought for our country and sacrificed, who brought the peace to this country so we can live in, shall not be consider as free riders.
What making me sick are these who doesn't work because lazy ass, taking advantage of our benefit system, no matter white, black, Asian or blue. They are the real trouble we have in this society.

I live in CA and I'm not being racist, just stating fact that many hospitals have had to close due to all the mexican "free riders".

BUT, every state treats the definition differently. Interesting read on how it's defined.
Anyways, I would LOVE to think it was that low and you could have charities solve the problem. Totally. I just don't think we are in the real world anymore, per some of the stats I'm reading.

You can currently get EIC as an individual but the qualifying incomes are below the uninsured penalty threshold. I feel like that policy will change in the future for the uninsured though... we'll see.
If people find out they'll lose hundreds of dollars out of their income tax refund, they might just decide to get health insurance so they can go to the doctor too.
They just grabs a whole cart as it were free, oh what? It is free to them.

The fine is going to be enforced by garnishing income tax refunds. If you want the rest of your refund you're going to have to pay the fee, plain and simple. If you choose not to withhold and/or file for a few years you'll probably get a visit from the IRS. I imagine employers will "have to" withhold a certain amount for taxes in the coming years.
You're also exempt from the fine if the premiums would be more than 8% of your income. But please just pay ~6-12% of your income to get health coverage if you can't get medicaid. It's worth it, period.
The rest of us don't want to pay your $100k in uninsured medical bills via our tax dollars and insurance premiums when you get hit by a car or develop a tumor and declare bankruptcy because you can't pay.
I just think it's funny as hell that this is being forced on everybody just about and if you don't want to buy into the health conglomerates gouged rates then you pay your $100 or so 'fine' for the first year and hope they repeal this turd of a law by the second year. Hopefully they will repeal it though as I don't see myself keeping the insurance long term.
Any way I look at it I'm going to lose money that I'll NEVER get back. That, to me, is not a slick deal.
