Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.
Can I cancel after the first year?
Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

That sucks. Thank you for the excellent clarification.
Yeah, it really does suck. It is how Sprint controls devices on their network and control they do. IMO, it alienates customers not to allow SIM swaps but it protects Sprint from people buying subsidized devices and not using them on the service they were intended to be used on.

To further clarify, Sprint has a Device Management Database that pairs every SIM card to the IMEI of the device it was activated in. If you put a SIM card in a new device, the SIM card will not be able to authenticate to the Sprint network unless you log online and reassociate the SIM card with the new device. And in order to be able to do that, the new phone must pass the FED and the SIM card must be the proper type for the new phone. Otherwise, it won't work.

Sprint is nothing at all like GSM carriers or even like Verizon.
And their ship is sinking and they still don't figure out whats wrong with them WinkWinkWink

It took 4-5 business days for mine to be adjusted. I am on the correct plan now.
Did you have to call everyday or did it automatically change? I've been on the Unlimited Freedom w/ AutoPay for two weeks (13 days left). I've had several chats and calls and a supervisor has done a follow up call, but other than lowering my bill by $25, there has been no resolution. Debating if I should just cancel or see what happens in two weeks.

Will the boost mobile Samsung s8 from bbuy for $499 work? I already ported in my number from att and have it working on a Nexus 6p was just wondering if I can switch to the boost mobile S8.
Boost S8 has to clear FED and change MVNO flag (device ownership) from PLBL (Private Label) to SPCS (Sprint PCS).
Quote from SAGAJI :
Thank you for your info.

Then is it the just device swapping as usual..?
you don't need to swap a sim card..

I thought this free unlimited plan was linked to the sim card...
The line (service plan) is linked/tied to the device IMEI and SIM ICCID. You can use the existing SIM if it's compatible with the new device. You have to associate/pair the new device IMEI with the SIM ICCID online from your account or call Sprint to do it before you can use/activate the new device.
Quote from CaffeLatte :
I did not know the service plan is tied to SIM card ! Indeed I've been using the same SIM card! Both my new and old devices are iPhones so the rep just swapped the device without questioning SIM compatibility or changing the plan, otherwise I would know.
See above.
Quote from decent :
I wonder if they can added other devices as well using the DNA tool. The rep I spoke to had no prior knowledge, kept on repeating that I need to call Verizon. Although my S8 is unlocked and I can use it on AT&T.

Also can they add just on the call or do they need a 'ClickIt' Ticket.I am tired of talking to reps since it takes at least good 10 mins before I come to know that they cannot help me.

I also tried inserting my sprint sim in a unlocked tmobile iphone 7. It shows sprint network but i cannot make call. But I read somewhere that tmo version of iphone 7 doesn't support sprint due to intel chip instead of Qualcomm. I wonder if you have any info on that.

Appreciate your help.
Keep calling until you find someone who knows how to do it. iP7 with Intel modem will not work on Sprint.
Quote from Totenmaske :
But the line thru BestBuy isn't "free" correct, just the original lines?

I understand you have the phone cost, but what about the line itself that the financed phone is on?
A few people have reported seeing the free plan ($5) while trying to add a new line with device installment via BB online, but none have reported successfully ordered and keeping the free line. I can't confirm this as I don't see the free plan ($5) on my wife's account when trying to add a new line via BB online. I think if you are able to complete the order and activate the new device with installment on the free plan ($5) via BB online, the order and free plan ($5) will stick unless you call Sprint and alert Marcelo Claure of the loophole.
Quote from hongri :
I just signed up this deal on phone. I was told by the rep, if I change the device (such as swap an iphone se to iphone 7) on the plan within the first 120 days, I will automatically dsiqulitied for the promorion, and lose the free plan. Can anyone comfirm on this, or is the rep just laying?
The rep gave you wrong info. You cam swap/switch device anytime. You cannot upgrade (i.e., lease or buy a new device with installment) on the free line prior to 10/1/17.
Quote from dementia :
That's my understanding as well
See above.
Quote from shinmiri :
Thanks so much this is really helpful. Do you know if Samsung pay would be disqualified if I flash the firmware? I know Samsung pay wouldn't work with rooted phones but I am not sure if they are the same concepts
Samsung Pay works because you are flashing with official Samsung firmware. No rooting and no custom firmware.
Quote from PeterH1461 :
The BB new phones are insteresting. But I am going to wait 120 days before upgrading. Don't want to screw up this good free plan.
You can add new lines to buy the phones from BB deals anytime. Just don't upgrade your free lines.
Quote from DrRad :
Has anyone successfully activated through the website without calling CS? Seems odd they'd go through the trouble of having 1-year free, BYOD, and self-activation, but having customers calling for help.
The website is glitchy and will also time out when it's busy. Try again later.
Quote from garymeter48 :
I ordered a sim card yesterday and I used a phone imei that passed the verification. I wasn't planning on using that phone to activate the card when it arrives. I did some more reading and it looks like the sim may need to be activated in that phone and I can not swap phones for 120 days. Is that accurate? Can I activate the sim in another Sprint phone?
You can swap device anytime. The new device has to be paired with the existing SIM before you can activate it. If the existing SIM is not compatible with the new device, you have to swap to a compatible SIM. You can do all this online yourself if you already have access to your account; else, you have to call Sprint to do it.

I have a T mobile locked samsung galaxy s8 which has been unlocked now. I want to know if I can avail this offer. Representatives are confused among themselves. Right now they have raised a click it ticket to see if they can do anything. Anybody who has done this successfully, your help is greatly appreciated
Ask Sprint to add the IMEI to the Sprint database; may take several calls as not many reps know how to do it. Flash the T-Mobile unlocked S8 to XAA firmware. You can mix and match firmware files, depending on what you want and how you want to set up your phone. All can be done quite easily if you are an advanced/experienced phone user.

Line 2 = 6GB on contract till December 2017 owe ETF $250 - Droid Turbo 2 Not Eligible
Line 3 = Dumb-phone would to get smart phone. on contract till March 2018.
For new customer only; you cannot add this offer to your existing Sprint account.

I have an iPhone 7+ on Tello right now. It's has only ever been on Sprint MVNOs. The phone is showing ineligilble for this promotion. I bought the unlocked version from Apple directly, but is it locked to something now? Is there anything I can do to fix that? Thanks. I see something about needing to switch PLBL to SPCS, but you have to be inactive to get it flipped, and I don't want to lose my number so I can't be inactive?!?!
The iPhone must be inactive before you can change the MVNO flag.
Quote from jamesgx :
I am unable to activate a verizon iPhone 7 Plus with sprint service. I get "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported. The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy..."

This phone was eligible and as far as I know post-paid Verizon 4G devices are unlocked. Anyone else using an VZ iPhone 6s/7?
You have to ask Sprint to add the IMEI (using their DNA2 tool) onto the Sprint database, then you have to pair the IMEI with the SIM ICCID on your account before you can activate/use it.

You cannot upgrade the free plan/line prior to 10/1/17. I have mentioned this many times.

Do I have to buy the sim or I can use the sim I have which I bought from Ting?
Any way to skip the 'buy the sim' step?
You can use your existing SIM as long as it's compatible with the Sprint network and your device.
Quote from Verniculous :
If I use an iPhone 6 to open the line, can I later change it to a Moto E without losing the promo?
You can swap device anytime (see my comment somewhere above).
Quote from Verniculous :
That may very well be a problem. Sprint has the FED such that SPP/VM/Boost and Sprint MVNO phones can't be on Sprint postpaid until their FED is met. If you used an ebay unlocker, they only SIM unlock for other carriers, they don't change the FED.
Most unlockers have the ability to "clean" the FED also for a fee. For Apple devices, Apple recently made some changes to the Apple GSX servers, where you can't SIM unlock any Apple device before the FED is clear; the unlockers are happy to comply because they are making extra $$$ from "cleaning" FED Big Grin

WARNING: IF FREE LINES DO NOT HAVE ADEQUATE USAGE ON THEM, SPRINT MAY SUSPEND ALL OPENED LINES AND REQUIRE YOU TO CALL THEIR FRAUD DEPARTMENT. Be sure to use the lines once you open them (unclear how much "usage" is required).

This happened to me and it was a ****ing headache getting them to reactivate my lines since I did not have access to the phones on the account/used placeholder IMEIs. Once I told them this, they flagged my account as "suspicious" and forced me to go to a store in order to re-activate. OFC, once I did that, they FORGOT to activate all my lines and only reactivated one, so I had to go back to the store AGAIN to reactivate the others.

and OFC the store employees have ABSOLUTELY NO INCENTIVE to help you since these lines give them zilch commission. So they give literally ZERO sh*ts about you.

you've been warned.
Quote from shinseiryuu :
No idea, but I opened on 6/22 and it was flagged inactive sometime before 7/4. About 1.5 weeks. I had literally 0 calls, 0 text, 0 data cuz it was on a placeholder IMEI.
Quote from shinseiryuu :
They may be flagging more recently opened lines due to concerns for "fraud", I speculate its from all the "referrals" that people may be doing (even though I did not use any referrals).
I think your issue is not really lines with no usage because Sprint don't usually flag lines with no usage unless there is suspicious activity. In your case, it's suspicious activity because you told them you don't "have access to the phones on the account/used placeholder IMEIs." Big Grin

Not sure what I need to do, but I currently have a freedompop (sprint sim) line on a Nexus 5X that I got from google fi originally. Been using it on FreedomPop since back in Feb. When I put in the IMEI and the phone number it says its not eligible. What do I need to do now? Is there a way to bypass the "ineligible" or do I need to call?

Had a few days off. I'm back now. You'll need to PM me the IMEI on reddit at /u/LiterallyUnlimited. I cannot reply using SlickDeals PM system because my account is still new and limited to 2 replies inside of 6 hours. I can see all your messages coming through, but I cannot reply because I used my two replies on the first two messages.

Are you active on FreedomPop GSM? If so, this is another case of the SPCS/PLBL flag. I can probably help you with this, but you'll need to PM me the IMEI on Reddit at /u/LiterallyUnlimited. Do NOT PM me here, as I cannot reply.

If you're active on FreedomPop CDMA, it's also the above, but it's mainly because the device is active on the Sprint network in some way. You'll need to free up the device by either cancelling service, porting to a non-Sprint MVNO or putting another device on your FreedomPop CDMA service.

I don't think you can get a TMobile Samsung device whitelisted by Sprint. Even though we all know the hardware is the same, Sprint won't do it because it would require flashing to make the device compatible. I have never heard of anyone getting a non-Sprint Samsung device whitelisted by Sprint.

iPhones yes, Samsungs no.

OK so they can bribe someone in Sprint with access to the DMD.

For Apple devices, Apple recently made some changes to the Apple GSX servers, where you can't SIM unlock any Apple device before the FED is clear; the unlockers are happy to comply because they are making extra $$$ from "cleaning" FED
So then Apple's servers must interact with Sprint's DMD to find out FED status before issuing the SIM unlock.

It depends on the device, but not usually. SPP, Virgin and Boost devices CAN have their flag changed. BUT, they'll probably fail the FED check that Sprint has (as Sprint owns those three brands). The Ting BYOD checker won't show that check, as it's not super relevant to bringing the phone to Ting. I'm not even sure I can see that on the back end.
I am trying to understand how it works - are there 2 issues? An "ownership" flag (PLBL) and the FED?

I have a Boost Moto E that was never activated on Boost but was activated on Ring Plus, Ting and Tello but is not currently active on any line. I take it this device is flagged as PLBL but could be changed to SPCS? But what about the FED?

Even if the flag was changed to SPCS, I can't use this device on Sprint postpaid because it won't pass the FED? Unless I paid an ebay unlocker to "clear" the FED?

Had a few days off. I'm back now. You'll need to PM me the IMEI on reddit at /u/LiterallyUnlimited. I cannot reply using SlickDeals PM system because my account is still new and limited to 2 replies inside of 6 hours. I can see all your messages coming through, but I cannot reply because I used my two replies on the first two messages.
Thank you for replying! I did get in touch with Sprint and they swap my phone (they had to register the sim with the imei and that helped me get onto Sprint. If I have an enabled phone right now I am using on Sprint, should I be able to swap that out to another phone and then bring it back to Sprint for the free plan? Thanks!

I think that is because those inactive SPCS Boost phones do not pass FED. The MVNO flag can be changed even if the phones do not pass FED; probably a loophole that Sprint needs to fix.
So there are 2 issues - ownership and FED?

My Boost Moto E that was never activated on Boost but was activated on R+, Ting and Tello could have its ownership flag changed to SPCS but that wouldn't affect the FED. To get the FED cleared I would need to pay an ebay unlocker?
