Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Any downside or issues with the ads on the phone? Plan on giving the phone to the wife to keep in the car for Waze.
Nope, just a extra swipe to unlock the phone, I just removed the application though a guide and my friend talked to Amazon CS and they disabled the Ads for free (that is YMMV)

Take a look at this video from CNET - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqPzQWOH0cI

I removed it with this guide, but it no more works with updated OS, so it might not work for you - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhyZEWDrQxw

For $30 more you can have the larger G4 from B&H with double the storage, brand new, no ads

You do not necesarily have to move the phone before porting, just the number (could be to a dummy IMEI).
However you will have to get the MVNO flag flipped in the Sprint database. Ting can do that.

Also separately you need to be a new Sprint customer (or at least a new SSN).
Contacted Ting to switch from CDMA to GSM and was told I need a GSM sim card since Spring sim card is CDMA. Should I buy the Tim GSM sim card?

I'd suggest a bit of a larger phone just because she'll use it for navigation. Also, I've heard that ad version devices don't get upgraded with as much as ad-less versions. If neither of these things matter to you, then I guess there isn't a downside.

Does it take a while for the data to start working? I just got this offer today and my phone was activated and it seems calling and texting working but I still have no internet even tho it says LTE next to the reception bars. I live in NYC so I have coverage. Its been more than an hour since the phone was activated.

It would have the benefit of simplicity to do so, although I guess you could also port the number to some other place that has cheaper sims.

I see Ting GSM sims for $10 on Ebay. Unless others have a lower-cost suggestion - let's see if they do.

I would tell Ting exactly why you are doing it, that you want to port out only but it has to be from their non-Sprint side to qualify for an offer, and make sure no other charges are involved.

Once you do port the number to a non-Sprint-based place (e.g. Ting GSM side), you can ask Ting to flip the Sprint ownership flag for the IMEI to SPCS. They will do it for current or former customers.

I switched from Total Wireless today and just wanted to point out that if are also switching from and MVNO chances are you had to add something to your phones Device Management when you first started using them, so in order for the Sprint LTE to work you need to delete that entry from your Device Management on General settings (on iPhone)

It turns out there is a new cable internet deal here for $15 a month. I have just installed it. It is labeled as for low income, and I myself would not qualify under the apparent criteria if you look at their web site, but it turns out they have blanket qualified certain areas, including the one I am in, regardless of actual individual income. Strange but true.

That price is so low I might keep it and get one less Sprint line. I have not decided.
linky please?

I'm not sure if this is what you mean or not, but if you just want a cheap GSM sim to port a phone to for one month, then here are a couple options:

https://www.amazon.com/Lycamobile...0+sim+card

If you click the other option on this page, it's only 1 cent, but not Prime
https://www.amazon.com/H2O-Wirele...0+sim+card

This one includes a month of service
https://www.ebay.com/itm/PreLoade...SwfaZZuCsU

You are not required to sign up via the sellers. You can call the carrier directly.

I've used several different MVNOs over the last several years (all GSMs), and don't remember ever adding anything to Device Management.

There is no link that says what I found out, namely that they extend this offer beyond the stated terms to *anyone* (whether they qualify individually or not) living in *some* areas only.
But if you are in Charter Spectrum territory, you can call and they will check your address to see if it qualifies.

Your zip code and street address.
If you currently have Charter Spectrum Service, you are not eligible.
I believe that the way I am qualifying is technically under the Community Eligibility Provision of the National School Lunch Program. They are interpreting that broadly to cover whole areas. You do not have to actually have anyone in school. It just depends on whether your local school participates in the free lunch program.
By the way, if you do qualify for this under that category, there are other offers too from other providers that you may qualify for (including low-cost Sprint hotspot device from low-income providers).
