The only disadvantage of the router is that doesn't have many advanced functions (VPN, VLAN ...) If you need very reliable, easy to use router, I highly recommend it, especially at this price.

I don't think it has any compatibility issue since it's just router.
That said I am using xfinity with this router, together with a custom modem.

Thank you! You answered my question Wave

It's just a router but most devices make sure to mention it in their features that it works with Xfinity/Cox etc. Did not see any such mention for this guy and hence wanted to check.

I just setup an onhub with comcast/xfinity and it works... but it wasn't easy. It required a factory reset and it took over 24 hours for the router to update itself and get past the initial setup modes. I resetted and restarted everything, let it go overnight, and did it again and again and it wasn't until late the next day that it started working.

I read another review that said something similar.

I can't give any details because the Google Wifi app you need to get the router started is some piece of crap that doesn't tell you anything and patronizes you by making you wait 3 whole minutes before clicking 'ok I restarted my modem'.

I went through this because I didn't want to go through the trouble of returning it, if I knew that: it's features are limited if you don't give Google tracking permissions, that setup was a pain in the ass, and the setup app was made for grandma, and it had a 24 hour self update cycle before starting up, I wouldn't have bothered.

That said, it seems to be reliable when it's working.

Models are usually compatible or otherwise with internet providers. Routers work with modems. So don't need to be compatible with internet providers. 2 in 1 modem cum routers are a different topic though.

I use this router with Xfinity. It's connected to a Motorola SB6191 modem and it works great.

I'm using one of these as an access point with google WiFi mesh network. Kind of a pain to get it to work though as you have to plug it directly into the modem first to get it to work / recognize the device, but after it's set up, it runs great.

Were you not able to just use the google WiFi app to add the new access point? I was hoping it'd be that easy...

I'm seriously considering buying a third one of these. I didn't think setting up my second via mesh network was that difficult.
