Or better question, would the $80 Ryzen 1600 a better value at micro center...
It all depends..
I am building a starter computer for a middle school kid.. I am figuring the 1600 and a reasonable gpu would be a good place to start this year and let him add to the computer as much as a middle school kid would earn.. I do not want to have him get bored with it.. but I do want him to work for it or at least define a need for improvement.. If he needs a 3600, let him buy it earn, trade for it..
sorry to those with out a mc store.. my bad..
No, it's not worth it to upgrade from the 7600 unless you need more cores in which case the 2700x is a better option. Save your money and hold out for a 3700x or 9700k
Honestly, just do a google search. Intel proc goes from i3 as the budget option to i9 as the high end option, and first number in proc is the generation (i5-7250u is a seventh gen, i9-10532 is 10th gen).

is the 3600 worth the extra $70? No games, just Solidworks and surfing.
Money saved will go to a Quadro.

I was sad when our local MC closed. It turned into a Walmart. =(
would this be a worthy upgrade coming from a i5-7600k?

Looks like solid works will benefit from single core processing for the linear calculations. The 3600k is better or the intel i5/i7 is better yet for your case.

For gaming there is almost no difference between the 7600K and the 2600X, look at this review from TechPowerup, At 1080p the 2600X is only 2.5% faster, and at 4k the 2600X is 1.5% faster. You would have to buy a new CPU and motherboard just to get a small increase of that size. Instead I would save the money for now and upgrade later when Ryzen 4000 comes out, or when Intel brings Ice Lake to the desktop space.
