Forget the haters! My wife and her aunt have something similar. If the performance is the same, It's a great deal for less tech-savy uses, like home study, or for media consumption. Windows 10 works just fine once you switch out of S mode. Streaming services work, Zoom works, light browsing works (seen the wife with 10 tabs open in Chrome and Edge just fine). They pay bills, do online shopping, write emails - all that stuff. The kids play Roblox and Minecraft. Wife hooks up to the TV to do her workouts. The specs are all low-end, but it is $150.

So what are the cons? It's not thin, nor light. The camera is hot garbage to me, but the wife uses it for Zoom and hasn't complained yet, so there's that. The screen is ... meh. I mean, our phones have better screens, and I'll bet a $150 phone might as well. At first I was concerned about the 4GB of ram, but honestly, it hasn't been a problem YET. I'm sure, in the future we'll have to revisit this. I would like an ethernet jack, but it's hard to tell because they only use them in the house and we have good wi-fi. If we go on vacation, it might be a different story. Also, 128GB of storage is nothing these days. You will run out fast if you have a lot of media. But this problem isn't exclusive to this particular model, as the majority of laptops are in the same boat. So add the cost of external storage (SD card, external drive, cloud) to the overall price. Finally, the battery life is not good. You'll have to pay more to start getting decent longevity.

I'm telling you guys. Avoid these lower end Lenovo laptops. Already purchased and returned two similar models. RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Even running basic tasks on Windows 10 is hard for these to handle, especially with only 4GB of RAM.

I'd love to see pics if anyone does the ram upgrade or the NVMe upgrade.

It looks like on some other models that their is a connector for a ribbon cable under the NVMe, so if that exists we might be able to buy the cable from a different model and attach a 2.5" SSD.

Yes I just put 8gb ram in mine. Very easy to install the ram, as soon as you take back cover off it's quite obvious as it's an open ram slot. Just insert the ram at an angle and push down for it to click.

The only sucky part is after removing the back screws, you need to depress the cover clips around the edges using something like a soft plastic credit card. Other then that, easy. I gently pulled up where it meets the lid hinge to slightly open enough to put the card in.

In about your PC for windows 10, it shows 12GB ram installed with 11.8 usable
Thanks for the quick tear-apart and report!

For those of us (like me) who might do something stupid and plop the wrong 8GB stick in the free RAM slot, can you recommend a specific brand or vendor to get it from? Any specific specs on the 8GB stick that might be obvious to everyone but not obvious to a n00b that we need to be aware of?

Thanks!.... The 2nd link, then downselecting from "16GB (8GB x 2) - 2400MHz" to "8GB (8GB x 1) - 2400MHz" gives me a single 8GB stick for $26.99. Going in my cart now - my Ideapad is scheduled for delivery this afternoon.

Interesting side note - I was looking at some of the memory configuration sites ... both Crucial and Kingston claim this model supports up to 20GB RAM (4 + 16) rather than the 12GB (4 + 8) that Lenovo's own spec sheet claims. Does anyone want to be the guinea pig? If you've got a spare 16GB stick laying around that's compatible, want to slap that bad boy in and let us know what happens? Smilie

So mine is still stuck in "Preparing Order" status on walmart website. I scour the app daily as it is, specifically the "in your store" section. Earlier this morning, the laptop showed up on there and instead of "in stock" or "out of stock", it said "Blitz stock". I just finally was able to get out of the house and over to Walmart. They had ONE left on top of the cage at the electronics counter. The only sign around it was a sign that said "While supplies last" and "$149" was handwritten on there. I lucked out.

Recieved mine yesterday and was looking to upgrade the RAM. I ran a scan on crucial.com and it says its compatible for an additional 16gb was wondering if I should buy that or the 8gb like everyone has been talking about on here?

Sweet! Fingers crossed. Smilie

Mine was just delivered 5 minutes ago. There was no tracking info on the website - apparently the local store grabbed on from inventory and they sent some dude in his car to drop it off on my porch. I guess that works.... I'll fire it up and make sure it's not DOA. Smilie

Ordered mine today and it was available for pickup at my local store. From the time of order to pickup was an hour. Going to do the ram upgrade as well as an ssd upgrade. Probably going with a 512gb ssd.
