Milwaukee has come out with better lights that are more versatile and cheaper.
You can buy two of these for $30 less and they are not a single situation tool.

Even without the free battery deal that was hard to get, I still think this is better for most people. You even get an additional 50 lumens combined.
Also 8 hours on high at 700 lumens each vs the underhood light at 4 hours on high.
This is a classic example of Milwaukee not shifting their lighting prices to account for age.
They even still sell this light at 100 lumens for $50.

Just one of many examples.

You know where the rover light is not versatile? On a car like mine that is made of aluminum. Some people, like me, do need something like this, where the magnetic lights don't cut it .
I still want this thing though, wide overhead light is nice.
You might try DIYing a solution using broad hooks with a steel plate that these could attach to. Depending on your hood, most have crossbracing on the underside that has enough room for either thin hooks or even thin gauge plate steel bent to slide between both structures.

I realize I'm an outlier - it's an old jaguar - underside of hood is virtually completely covered in flame-retardant material. There are no hooks / holes anywhere on the sides of the hood where there is a little bare metal. I've considered the DIY approach and will probably pursue that and keep this light in box for return if the DIY approach works out. Will look into "broad hooks".

I believe it was $30 on sale.
It's rated at 845 lumens. I need things pretty bright, so I run it at high almost all the time. I didn't think low was really bright enough for my needs. If Milwaukee's stated 1350 lumens is proportionately brighter than the Harbor Freight, I'd definitely appreciate the extra light output.
HF claims it's supposed to run for 3.5 hours on high and 7 hours on low. I think that's pretty optimistic. I wasn't paying full attention to the elapsed time, but I think I got 2 or 2.5 hours at most of continuous use on high.
It has bungee cords on the ends with both hooks and magnets, so you have various options to attach it to things. I was working on a car with an aluminum hood, and the hooks worked great. I also just placed it on the ground for illumination while working on stuff underneath the car on jack stands.
It has a barrel connector for power, which is irritating. Why not an industry standard like a micro-USB connection?
I always wanted this Milwaukee light, it's most certainly a better light than the Harbor Freight. But is it 5 times better? I still might get one because of the Slickdeals effect. Thanks OP. LOL
Got it. Even if thats the case, I think you can sell the battery and the charger and come out better that OP deal.
