There was a lengthy thread about this system just recently.

For those who are curious, the CPU in this is very close to the 5800X in performance (in other words, it's a monster), however the motherboard and power supply are proprietary (in physical shape and connectors), so video card upgrade options are extremely limited.

To add insult to injury, one user reported that the motherboard in this also does NOT support ANY older AMD CPUs, so if you are considering buying one of these with the intent of swapping in a different CPU to resell the PC and then using the 5700G in a real gaming system (because it alone is worth $400+), there is no point, because this HP will not work with anything but a 5x00G series processor. So, you'd be stuck with a $550 PC with no processor, that requires a processor that cannot be purchased at retail. Might as well just buy the 5800X or 5600X from the start.

I can't think of any possible way to use this system to the full potential of the extremely powerful CPU without being hindered by something that cannot be upgraded.

Don't fall for these deliberately neutered PCs desktop PCs that can't be maintained\upgraded in the long run. This way of designing computers is bad for enthusiasts, consumers and the environment. This is planned obsolescence at its worst.

If someone figures out a way to use an older Ryzen APU in one of these (updated\hacked BIOS, etc.), the story changes quite a bit, but the system itself offers almost no upgrade path for those interested in games.

Yes, there's a slot and connector for a 2.5" or 3.5" HDD. The system comes with the OS on a mini PCIE NVME drive and it has a slim DVD drive.

The Ryzen 5700g APU has only been out for maybe a month or 2. This whole deal is the CPU basically and a minimal system built around it.

Yes, there is. There is total 3 SATA Ports and one is being used by the ODD. You can probably add one 3.5" or two 2.5" Drives.
If you unplug the Optical until you need it, you'd have three additional HDD sata connectors.
Provided one can find the physical space one could likely put 3 x 3.5s in there.
Velcro tape works well for stuffing drives into cases.
I once had 10 3.5 HDDs in a midsize tower home server.

It sounds like the Rembrandt version of this could double the graphics performance next year (12 RDNA2 CUs instead of 8 Vega CUs [videocardz.com]), so I will be waiting for that. The deal is solid though.

How much are you losing with 1 Ram stick when it is a dual channel system?
I tested mine both ways, performance gets cut almost 50% in some games when in single channel vs dual channel. Edit wanted to add this in slightly older games haven't tried cyberpunk or similar latest games.

Base on the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fkv5bNrGSI above from djc6, this PC was sold for $550 since 11/2020 on OD. I can't see how is it a slick deal here?
have the cost of components gone down since then?

Not a good deal. If you're paying more than $500 for a PC you should be getting an included discrete GPU. There are systems in this price range that include 16 series Nvidia GPUs.

You do not need to do any gaming to realize that a good, modern GPU will future proof your PC purchase and allow it to take advantage of rapidly developing display technologies and standards. Even if you don't care about pixels or framerate or processing power mumbo jumbo, just know that your $550 should simply be getting you a better computer than this.
If you buy a GPU for this system you are kind of defeating the purpose of this build. It is a G series CPU which actually has pretty good graphics for a good Budget PC rig. You really only need another stick of RAM and an extra hard drive for game storage and you are set. I have been wanting to do my own build with this CPU but you can only find them in prebuilds. If you have the huge amount of money for a GPU, then you might as well just get an X series CPU.

HP products are included in the list of exclusions.
I concurred that. Last week I bought one for $619.99, thinking I could get the 15%. After several days of not seeing it with my account, I sent an inquiry and was led to the exclusion terms on the RAK site:

Exclusions: Cash Back is not available on orders completed with an in-store coupon, Business Services Division orders, Gift Card purchases, or HP, Samsung, and Epson products.

So I cancelled my order from store.

Also running the single channel 1x16, I got around 21700 CPUmark. Putting another 16GB in it, I got 25000 CPUmark. The memory I put in was not the 22-22-22-22 variant, so the speed is reduced to 2133 instead of 3200 as the factory one. But the improvement is still impressive. From the last email thread it seems people can buy a TeamGroup 16GB which is recognized by this PC to run at full speed at 3200.

One difference is that those systems have 6-core CPUs. Typically an i5-10400. They've also been no less than $650 lately.

If gaming performance is your top priority, this system may not be for you. Even though it's the most powerful non-console APU on the market right now. But Intel's Alder Lake CPUs are coming later this year and it looks like AMD will double graphics performance in its next desktop APU.

This seems like a great deal no? I don't do too much gaming, just getting into it, and work from home a lot. My HP Omen 15 en-en0023dx got water damaged somehow and HP wouldn't replace it at all for me. This seems like something comparable, to confirm can I upgrade the RAM on this easily? And with light gaming, would this be a really good desktop to have? Any guidance would be appreciated.
