C1 is manufactured in two factories, and one of them only makes the 'evo' panel. It's a lottery as to which one you'll get. Basically, if you are lucky enough to get the new evo panel then you can go into the service menu and just update it. The serial number will tell you whether you got the evo panel or not (you'll have to research that bit). But here is a post with instructions on how to change the settings to make the TV think it's a G1.
I believe doing this makes the TV drive the panel harder (which the evo panel can tolerate), and thus peak brightness can increase a bit. There is a lot of misinformation floating about on the impact of doing this. Some folks initially said that it trashes the sound quality (since speakers on G1 and C1 are different), but supposedly that's not true. I believe Vincent Teoh on HDTV YouTube channel mentioned that same which contributed to that misinformation.
Regardless of whether there is any detrimental impact or not, the biggest concern is LG can potentially void the warranty in case there is any issue. For a $3000+ TV it's definitely not a risk worth taking.
My (very limited) research tells me that if you use this 'hack'', at best you'll get meager improvements to peak brightness. But at worst you may cause some unseen detriment (maybe reduce the life of the TV via faster burn-in), and also may void the warranty. Whether there is much difference between a C1 regular panel vs C1 evo panel when both are running the regular C1 settings - I'm not sure. My guess is that without the G1 settings (which I would advice against anyway), the difference is going to be so minor that most won't be able to tell the difference. I would just ignore the 'evo hack' or the panel lottery and enjoy the TV as is.
Maybe someone has more knowledge on the latest developments on this. But thought I'll share what I know. Hope this helps.
I have a CX and a C7 and there is no real difference in the image quality, even between 3 years of models. OLED is simply as good as it gets.

It was the Southcenter location. As far as replicating the deal, that might be up to you. Just be cool the with salesperson and make sure they know that you know what you're talking about. I never even mentioned the price of the 77C1. After talking with him for about 10 minutes he brought up price and I mentioned that I passed on a CX deal for $2700 the week before because I was still mulling things over and that's when he basically said for $50 more he'd sell me the C1.
Should have read these last few posts! I just went to tukwila video only and got the c1 77 for $2800 plus tax with 5-year warranty and no free delivery, so about $100 worst than helio.
Still a great deal considering the fact that the cx at Costco costs $2950.
Does anyone who ever bought oled tv from bestbuy recommend GSP warranty? I just found out they seem increase $25 for the warranty price. I just bought a tv from bestbuy and wonder should I get GSP before the price goes up again. Any thoughts? Thank you.
$200 visa card, and 4 year extended warranty is still active for the LG C1 77! Bought it for 3296+tax with free 2-5 day shipping. That warranty includes accidental damage, burn-in, etc, so it's a nice addition to the deal. A $200 gift card makes it a little better, and you can still get the 2.5% cashback reward from the Slickdeals app for another $82!
