Slick Dealers don't rent from Xfinity. Slick Dealers buy a modem and router. Bite the bullet and buy. Don't rent.

I've been running one with zero downtime and consistently great speeds for 6 months now. Highly recommend this.

Have not seen ANY wifi routers with even 2.5GBE for under $200
I don't have any experience with it, but Costco [costco.com] has the TP-Link AX3200 w/ Wi-Fi 6 for $149.99. It only has one 2.5Gbs port, so you're limited to either LAN or WAN, but 2.5GbE wireless routers do exist under $200. Obviously, a full 2.5/5/10Gb end-to-end network would cost more than that, but prices have come down a lot.

It would seem link aggregation put 2.5GBE in some competition. Also mid year are generally the lowest for routers. Uptake will still be slow.

Bb has the Motorola mb8611 for $169 as well. D3.1 x 8 w/2.5 Ethernet port.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/moto...Id=6451964

Im also reading that the Moto has more useful indicator lights than the Arris? Kind of a nitpicky thing to be concerned about until you need to troubleshoot with your cable company.

Anyone know the differences between these two? Any pitfalls?

I have the the traditional rental from xfinity and don't even need a router because it already has WiFi and 4 Ethernet ports. I guess it depends what you need a router for.

Edit: this is not the one you want unless your willing to buy a separate router. This does not have Ethernet plugs probably doesn't have WiFi either

I currently have a NETGEAR DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit (CM1000) modem. Would I benefit anything by upgrading to this modem?

Just from personal experience. Arris products are not reliable. Modem runs hot and constant crashes. Router locks up and stops network. Also app for router was garbage for the longest, recent update made it much easier to work with, but network still crashes.

No, unless you have issues with your current one.

But with only a 2.5Gbps port how future proof will it be? Serious question.
I'd be surprised if even 2gbps will be offered without a major change to the technology. Docsis 3.1 will be limited to 1.2gbps in the US simply due to the frequency spectrum available for use. Cable internet is about delivering over long distances, if you want more speed you'll have to look into fiber.

Really? I need uncapped data limits, and for me it's cheaper to bundle that with a rented XB7 than use my own. My customer-owned modem is sitting in a closet.

Still waiting on docsis 4.0 modems here. Announced last year, so some should be hitting the market soon.

Comcast is already provisioning its Gig service at 1.4Gbps. I see it on my connection.

At near price parity, I'd go with the S33. (Future proofing, compatibility, etc.) $20 is nothing spread out of the 5+ year lifespan of a modem. There was a recent deal for Amazon Warehouse SB8200 units for $66.76, which made my decision much easier.
That's a great deal. Got mine for $81 a year and a half ago.
