Xfinity is greedy and will try/say anything to get you to rent a modem from them.

When I was getting only 400Mbs on my connection (I have gig internet from them) they blamed the modem. Finally I had it with their tech that was in my house and told him to connect their modem and show me. He run out of here with the tail between his legs when their modem had the exact same speed. The next tech replaced the line to the street and the problems went away.

Solid deal. I'd have got this if it wasn't for good deal I got on SB-8200 couple of years ago.

I'd get this over SB8200 if you are in the market today.

Need some help here, I bought a NETGEAR Nighthawk CM1100 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem a few years ago but now am getting a message from Xfinity that I need to upgrade since this modem does not take advantage of the full capabilities of my connections (800MB) which doe snot make sense. My understanding is that my existing modem has is able to handle up to 1GB so not sure why I'm getting this message andI don't want to just buy another modem for no reason

Thanks! thats what I thought too. They replaced my wiring as well but I was still having issue with my tv signal so they put in an amplifier. I don't want to do anything more with them and will probably switch to fiber once my ever increasing contract is over

I have an Arris surfboard 3.0 that I installed recently on Xfinity and it's solid. I don't need faster but if i did I'd get another Arris for the right price.

Your modem is capable of providing 1gbps speed. Xfinity typically over provisions their service so, when you have the 800mbps tier you should see speed test's in the range of 900-940mbps. That's very close to the limit of gigabit ethernet (950-960mbps). As your modem only had a gigabit ethernet port on it you are getting just about the best speed possible, also if your computer only has a gigabit ethernet port on it then there is no reason to upgrade to a faster modem (with a multi-gig (2.5GbE) port) as you will still be limited by you PC's ethernet port.

In short, your modem is fine, ignore what Xfinity is saying, as aacd mentioned, they are just trying to get more money out of you.

Just recently went through the same problem - the v1 of the CM1000 is no longer supported. They dropped my speed down to 56k to get me to notice they wanted CM1000v1 off the network - Worked fine for many many years on my 1gb and now 1.2gb service, I bought both a An Arris S33 & a CM2000 as replacements - returned the s33 as xfinity automated service did not know how to provision either of them. Watch out though support kept sending me in automated loops for about a month - very frustrating. I finally took my case to the xfinity brick and mortar store - fixed in about 12hrs

I am seeing Arris S33 as supported under XFinity device info. Did you try to call a real support person?

Got this deal during the last sale a week ago. Was having issues with my Motorola MB8611 (known issue even confirmed by Xfinity effecting thousands of constantly dropping service repeatedly during the day and their band-aid solution was rolling the firmware back to an older version) and the S33 worked perfectly out of the box after activation through the Xfinity app. Not schilling for Arris (this is my first time buying any product from them) because I've owned an mb8600 that has never failed me (now on the Xfinity EOL list).

Yes, the S33 is on the supported list, but I guess that is the point, The S33 didnt successfully autoconfig'd - although I tried many times (factory reset) & Xfinity makes it almost impossible to talk or get escalated to provisioning. My experience is you have to go to the store to get your case escalated to get provisioned properly. I have no doubt the S33 worked properly. I had a technician out, line was clean, and by elimination, not that he knew, said the S33 had to be replaced.. But when I replaced it with the CM2000 I had the same slow service 600mbs 1/2 of what my subscription. Yes, I spoke with a live persons @ Xfinity support repeatedly, and there script is locked down so tight on non Xfinity modems - power off ect. and skip provisioning as it works, slowly, and is ping'able. Pathetic really. Thats why it took so long It wasn't until i went to the store did I actually get help escalated to provisioning

I had a Surfboard modem that I bought in 2010 or 2011. Finally retired it last month when Comcast's monopoly in my area ended and I was able to switch to a 1Gbps fiber line. That modem is GOATed.
