Slick Dealers don't rent from Xfinity. Slick Dealers buy a modem and router. Bite the bullet and buy. Don't rent.

I've been running one with zero downtime and consistently great speeds for 6 months now. Highly recommend this.

Spectrum gives modem for free here. I still prefer my own. Costs me more as I have to replace every few years due to lightning. Central Florida is bad. It's thru the RF connector as my power is double gapped by UPS into UPs. RF surge protectors kill digital signal reverse signal and I've had them blow off the wall.
Lightning shouldn't be an issue for the coax port. Make sure your place is wired correctly by the cable company.

Also. Spectrum modem has got the bad puma chip I think.

Most MB only have a single gigabit port. Also 2.5 - 10GBE are still not in common use yet and in expensive routing hardware.
You out of date. Ethernet cards and modules are much improved and the upgradable. Have been forever.

Many motherboards are starting to show up with 2.5gig ethernet ports. For example, the first motherboard I clicked on at Micro Center. https://www.microcenter.com/produ...otherboard

For ease of use/plug and forget I like firewalls (gold) for individual device control (I set my kid's laptop to not access the internet after a certain time m-f) in an easy to use gigabit (they say multi but you'd have to pair gigabit ports to go above gig) but it's a bit spendy. Unifi also has a version that came out recently that I've heard good reviews of (as well as the performance of their extended range wifi) My STRONG suggestion is have as many separate units as possible so it's easier to upgrade/repair without replacing everything (access points, router, and modem vs using combo units). Unifi head to toe would be my suggestion for people who don't want to read all the pros and cons of each option from multiple mfgs. They even do managed switches which can be useful for additional load balancing before you hit the firewall...
Unifi 100%. Simple and turnkey (for the most part). Built the house with cat6 throughout and now feed PoE from the closet drop. Plus, if you are on ATT fiber you can authenticate directly from the USG and through that thicc boy RG in the closet to collect dust.

Really? I need uncapped data limits, and for me it's cheaper to bundle that with a rented XB7 than use my own. My customer-owned modem is sitting in a closet.
Dang bro

It's another $20 off to buy used with Warehouse. Says it has a cosmetic defect, but whatever. I've twice bought used modems from Warehouse and they've worked fine and actually been cosmetically immaculate.
Often cosmetic is box cosmetic not device.

I just got Spectrum and brought my own SB8200. I had no idea they gave a modem for free until I realized that my connection was awful and sporadic. I called and complained and they said it could be my modem, so they sent me the free one. I am using it now and haven't noticed much of an improvement, and I don't think it's any better than the SB8200. I replaced the router and the sporadic dropping is gone, but speeds are still crap. Wondering if this S33 would do anything at this point and whether it's worth it.

If you've already gone through two modems, have a tech come out and analyze your signal before spending any more money. There may be a bad connection or splitter somewhere in the signal path before you modem.
What speed are you paying for? How bad are your actual speeds?

It's most likely the cable run to the local server station is too far or damaged so causing interference. This is something that won't be fixed unless Spectrum is forced to by your city. Check with your neighbors that have Spectrum to see if they have the same problem. It could also be bad cable run to your house specifically. Basically the problem is on the Spectrum end and not yours nor the equipment being used.

Our local at&t dsl has this problem. Up to 1 gbps plans are available but we can only get max of 4mbps speed. Meanwhile, Spectrum is perfect up to 1 gbps.

Is this worth it to avoid $12 monthly model rental charge ?

This is 170 and tax so about 185
It would take 15.5 months to break even.

Motorola MB8611 has 5 status-reporting LEDs on the front panel and looks like firmware is more reliable compared to S33. With staples, $25off makes it a better deal for MB8611.
