Name 1 useful thing that you need but can't do on a Mac as efficiently as Windows? You can't. The only thing this can't do that a Windows laptop can, is play games which use directX. News flash: You already can't do that on 99% of windows laptops, unless if you get a thick ugly gaming laptop. That's literally it. If you don't play games on your laptop at crappy frame rates, then I can't see any way in which a Windows laptop would be better. The battery life on this is insanely long. Office suite works just like Windows (or you can use the free Apple version of keynotes, pages, etc.). Remote Desktop client works flawlessly. Native VPN client. Unix/bash shell.
I think a lot of people misunderstand is it's not just about what "works" but rather what "works well with others." Simplest form is the font Helvetica Neue, which is Mac only. Try installing a version on Windows just so it can "work" and it will cause more problems. Even Office files generated on a Mac can sometimes translate weirdly when you open the files on a Windows machine and vice versa, so I have to double check for those as well.

Apple users: Can you work with this?
Me: Sure, I can find a work around to make it work.

But when...

Me: I can't use this, it's Mac-only
Apple users: Well, you should have gotten a Mac.

My issue with Macs is the whole my way or the highway thing.

So you don't have to pay taxes on the $749? Also how is it better? Chromebooks also have 8GB ram and 256GB .....and also chromebooks have touch screen so I'd say it's better
Better because you don't have to use chrome, so you're only using a fraction of that 8GB. Chromebooks have eMMC, and not unified SSD's. Honestly sounds like you'd be better off with a $100 Android tablet for your use case: gigs of ram, storage via microsd, touchscreen and chrome. This MacBook Air is more geared towards college and grad school students who need it for productivity (powerpoint slides, notes, spreadsheets, organizing pictures, organizing calendars, long emails, writing papers, research, etc.)

I was almost next in line for a chat rep for price match and it hung on 3 minutes. I checked on my phone and it says their chat closed 35 minutes ago.

I have a 27" late 2015 5k iMac which I'll be upgrading when the larger iMac refresh with Apple silicon gets released, and I have a 12.9" 2018 iPad Pro that I use with a magic keyboard as a laptop replacement. Both machines work as well as the day I bought them. But man, it is getting really hard not to buy this MBA with these sales. This is such a great machine at such a great price. If I had even a sliver of need for it I would jump all over it.

I have a Surface Pro (2017) that probably will be needing the screen replaced soon. Is this a good alternative, especially for someone who is starting graduate school? I already have a ipad and an iPhone so I'm already in the ecosystem. I also have a PC so this would mainly be for when I'm traveling and have to do my school work away from home
I have a Surface Pro 7 and I got to use a macbook air m1 for couple of days. While the hardware is great, adaption to mac os was a huge pain for me. It is a steep learning curve if you have never used mac before and some of the features that are just present and work in Windows are either just not there or are complicated to replicate in mac. I'm sure that is true for some of the mac features as well with regards to Windows.
Despite the struggle I'm still debating whether to go with the mac or not.

I use a Mac for work, but 99% of my colleagues use Windows. Can't recall a time where I couldn't collaborate or work with whatever doc/system they're using. I'm the one doing the occasional workaround, it's not "my way or the highway".

I have the Bestbuy 10% off (up to $35) but it is associate with my Chase checking account instead of on my Chase credit card. Do I have to use my debit card in order to get the 10% off?
