To folks who are new to TP-Link's Omada, it basically a clone of Ubiquiti's Unifi (prosumer/enterprise networking equipment)

Its ecosystem includes a router (you can use your existed router), a controller (a must need; which is used to manage and adopt all APs and switches, and it can be self-hosted), switches, and access points. Additionally, Ubiquiti also has Protect line which is CCTV.

To Dealfinder2012: yes and no. Yes because you can get multiple Omada's APs; Wifi 5, Wifi 6 all work together as one seamless system. No, I have not heard about Omada running as a stand-alone So you cannot hook up to your existed system and use it as a range extender. However, you can hook it up to the router and set it up as a stand-alone AP.

To ispeed : AP-LR is a really really old AP. Since you already have Unfi's equipment (you have AP-LR, I guess you already have USG and Cloud Key), depending on your budget it is better to get a used AP-AC-LR if your range is enough. If not, you can buy 2 used AP-AC-PRO for $60/each on subreddit r/homelabsales or r/hardwareswap or craigslist, etc. Resell value of Ubiquiti's equipment is still high, almost always. You must check their speed, both 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, and range cater to your need. If you changed to TP-Link's Omada, you would need to get more equipment anyway.

To BuyMoreChuck: no, you cannot use it to piggyback off another router's signal to extend it. It is a whole ecosystem, you can add as many APs from different Omada's models together as you need. That is how they make $$$ and called it ENTERPRISE.

I have UDM Pro, Wifi 6 Lite AP, and NanoHD. Purchased a Omada's switch and run their software controller in a VM, Unifi is still better. Not being bias, their APs and switches are rock solid. However, the router is kinda trash. Let alone their breach, search it for more info.

thanks michrech for clarification. I will edit this to avoid anyone else misunderstanding.
This is absolutely not true. The TP-Link EAP series APs can be used without the Omada controller. You lose the ability to configure multiple APs simultaneously, and possibly some other advanced features. I have two EAP225's running in my mothers home, stand alone, without any issues.

UniFi cannot "piggyback" off another router's signal. Some of the UniFi APs do support wireless uplink, but it only works with other UniFi APs (as far as I understand the feature).

I've been running three of these in my home for the past year, and had one before that in my last home for more than two years. Completely reliably with virtually no downtime, great coverage corner to corner, and speeds are excellent. I have the Omada app running on a windows laptop which is always on, and this gives me seamless roaming throughout the house and easy app-based configuration.
Granted I used an Asus AC-RT68U in the past which also had pretty much no downtime, but if you have a big space and need more than one access point for coverage, I don't think there's anything that matches the speed and reliability you'll get from these for the price.

I don't believe devices will properly roam between APs without the controller, at least not seamlessly. I've noticed that when my software controller was down for short periods, I had some issues where it seemed like the client wanted to hang on to the original AP rather than transition to the AP that now had a better signal. Right now I have 3 Omada APs in my house and I can walk around the house on a wifi phone call and have zero interruptions.

It does work, but not to it's full capability.

Wow - thanks everyone for the comprehensive explanation. I have CAT 6 run throughout my house, when I was pulling and replacing ceiling & walls, but have not hooked it all up yet. So lazy! My 16 port switch that is coming off the router is almost full and I have about 9 direct cables still in the wall that goes downstairs to drive the TV, Stereo, Xbox, etc. so I will need a bigger switch or use s single cable to a switch downstairs. It is really pretty shocking on how many devices require an IP connection to the internet. I have already off-loaded the wireless from the AT&T router to an Asus and an Actiontec wireless router. With working from home, I split the devices to ensure better coverage on the wireless used for business vs. watching TV, Xbox, etc. So I was just reviewing my options.

Again, thanks to everyone who provided excellent explanations!

Surprisingly Good quality stuff that omada line. But id shell out the extra $30 for the EAP-245v3 - its much faster and legit more power & better range, and worth the extra $$ in most use cases .

Been using the Omada HW controller + EAP-245.v3's as my go to setup for all fam / friends and small biz customers (and my own wifi) for years now with nothing but good luck and happy wifi users. Best bang for buck by far still today

Meraki GO aint too bad at similar prices but def more $$ and not as fast. So ive been GO-ing with Omada instead..

What would you use this for?
You would need a hard wired connection for this to work
I have EAP 245 and it works great.
you can not use this like those mesh units where a wireless channel is used
as back haul for inter unit communication. I think this will come with PoE injector
which you can use to power this device and send network (power over ethernet) via ethernet cable

I have a straight forward question

(1) I have AT&T wireless modem and router combo. If I mount this P-Link AC1350 Omada EAP225 to a ceiling in my house, will it connect with my AT&T router to extend the wireless strength or it does something else?

How to get an ethernet point to a ceiling? I assume this needs to be hooked up to a ethernet cable in order for it to be powered (meaning it is not a battery powered)

Maybe but you still need to run ethernet for power

I ran ethernet in the attic and attached the AP to the ceiling like a smoke detector, uses power over ethernet. This is a semi-pro solution works the best
