Tempting! I tried to find the answer in the description but maybe someone can answer this for me:
Since this phone seems to be locked to the AT&T network, would R-SIM16 be able to unlock it? Thank you!
If it's about using it like then total wireless and some trackfone brands offered it at $200 and even lover for refurb ($130 right now) which was basically like new when I got one, just use "disposable" email to get 25% discount on their regular new SE model(not sure if it work on refurb one). Here's link to refurb one: https://shop.totalwireless.com/sh...onditioned
Also it does require plan purchase and cheapest one is $25 but code will offset at least the device cost (discount doesn't apply to plan cost)and you can activate it and use that line as port in one if there any good deals on BF for that so somewhat "salvageable" cost.

Not free. You need to pay 3 months of service in advance @$60 per month.
Obviously they wouldnt just give you a free phone without switching to their service...you guarantee you'll be a customer for 3 months with all that 180 going to their service costs, you get a free phone.
Can an AT&T locked phone be used on Red Pocket using the AT&T network?
I've used iPhone SE and 6S ATT prepaid on Redpocket without issue. MMS is working. The only hiccup with these Walmart ATT phones is that they sometimes are not scanned appropriately. Then, you have to contact/email att prepaid support with a copy of the imei and receipt to lift the block. You may then have to contact Red Pocket to let them know that the phone's restriction has been lifted before the phone's voice and data will work.
Thanks to the original poster, as I ordered one to replace my wife's iPhone 6S (battery life is poor even with new battery). She'll be using Red Pocket.

Usually: 1) unlimited plan is needed for theses deals. 2) 24 month commitment isn't for everyone
Neither of these are true.
For 1), national retailers can deal with all regular and standard plans. Very old plans, "non-standard", rare plans may have problems. I've done both AT&T and Verizon non-unlimited plans w/o problems. YMMV for a very small minority but everyone else will be fine.
For 2), this is not a contract and is in fact a free 0% loan. FYI, old-style 2-year contracts are contracts, more recent installment billing (no bill credits) are 0% loans in the customer's favor, and new T-Mobile style reversal contract 2-3 year bill credits promotions standard across the industry nowadays are scams to the carrier's advantage (and actively harms you)
