There is a video online comparing the performance of the Legion 5 Pro with the G15, that shows performance is virtually the same despite the wattage difference. Here it is: https://youtu.be/75b1Md44l4M

I think the culprit is that many of the Legion 5 Pro's ship with slower RAM. If you're not one of the lucky ones that get the faster RAM, you'd have to spend an extra $100 or so to buy the faster RAM (and maybe sell the slower RAM to offset some of that cost).

I'm on the fence between the two, but am leaning towards the ASUS because it is much lighter, doesn't have that giant power brick, performs great and the keyboard and touchpad both have gotten great reviews. The L5Pro has the nicer screen (which is also 16:10, a big plus for me), but I don't like the keyboard layout with the numpad and the off-center touch pad, as ergonomics are very important to me. The L5Pro is also very big and unwieldy. It does have a webcam which the G15 doesn't but it's only 720P so I'd probably get an external 1080p cam anyway. Ah, decisions, decisions!

This unit has a gimped 3070 with the TDP limited to 80-100w. The legion has a full 140w 3070.

I have this one. It's not bad, but I have it connected to a monitor 24/7 via USB-C to DP now. The fans can really ramp up at times, and it does get pretty hot during gaming (e.g. No Man Sky or The Outer Worlds ). Like others said there is a little light bleed in the edges during dark scenes in movies directly from the laptop. Some of the ports on the side are really close to the front which was weird to me. The keyboard is not bad and the build is decent.

Overall I like it. Though I did upgrade the max TDP of the 3070 to 90w-105w from stock 80w-100w. There is a Reddit post that shows you how to change, from my best understanding, the firmware for the GPU. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

You could go higher in TDP, but the other's firmware they suggested did not appear to support USB-C DP (which is what I use). Ironically I haven't played any games yet after doing this lol.

Here's the Reddit post for anyone who owns this and/or is interested.

Any experts? Could use some help.

This laptop or the legion 5 pro (ryzen7 5800, 32gb ram, rtx 3070, 1 tb ssd)? Price is the same so it really comes down to (ryzen 9 + 16 gb ram) vs. (Ryzen 7 + 32 gb ram)

How much do you care about gaming/mining? Legion has the much better GPU wattage. If you can't buy a legion and those two things are not a deal breaker this laptop does look/feel really nice when I checked it out at Best Buy.

I got this when it came out at full price and it's totally worth it, the battery is really good for a gaming laptop and the USB-c PD charging is a game changer for me who don't just use this for gaming. It's also very light and thin, the screen is great even with a somewhat bad backlight bleed and the speakers are decent, above average but they could be a little louder. Overall, for msrp is already great, for this op price is an absolute steal.

I love it. I was just joking, its a great laptop. I cant really imagine asking for much more from it. he certainly favors amd, and I favor intel, but I really enjoy his channel.

I own both current gen AMD and intel laptops. I don't game or do processor intensive stuff so either does the job for me.

ive just only owned intel, just like apple. I dont look at android stuff lol or amd, fanboyism is all. never done me wrong so I dont go to the other side. I only game too. so thats pretty much my reasoning for intel for a gaming laptop. my actual content creation/work/pleasure is all on apple products MacBook/iMac.

Lenovo had a deal going where you could stack 2 discount codes on top of each other. One was a holiday discount and the other was a legions20 (or something) discount. Dropped the price from $2,100 to $1,550..

it says out of stock right now but keep checking

I game casually w fps and vr gaming. Honestly even though I won't be moving around the laptop much I prefer the look and feel of asus g15.

However, what is holding me is that I can get double the ram with legion 5 at the same exact price.. but the legion 5 has a ryzen 7 5800 in comparison to G15's ryzen 9. Not sure if the processor will offset the additional ram or not. Honestly don't know what to do here
