Gaming performance wise, Alienware M15 R5 is better as that has a RTX 3070 with higher TGP, 125W max vs 100W max at this one. Also, Alienware has better upgradability as both Ram slots are upgradable vs 8GB soldered + 1 Ram slot in this one.
However, the Asus one has a far superior and higher resolution QHD display, almost 1.4 lbs lighter and has better battery life.
So, based on what you need, higher performance and upgrade option in expense of portability and display quality or much portability, thinner and lighter design and better battery life, in expense of slightly reduced performance.

About the same price I bought this for a year ago. Great laptop all the way around, no complaints. Thought the price might be a bit lower by now but I guess all the hardware is still current

I got this laptop at the last frontpage deal about 3 months ago, and so far I really like it. It has good portability, good battery life, so I can use this on the go, whereas my last gaming laptop, G3 Dell 17 inch was chunky and i couldn't use it outside of a desktop replacement. The monitor could be brighter, but it's not so bad, I use an external monitor most of the time. It doesn't have a mux switch, but I'll connect it to an external monitor generally to get around that.
