This is a CMR drive, as opposed to SMR. To put it succinctly, SMR drives should be avoided for the daily driver and storage arrays (if one fails, rebuilding with an SMR drive can take much longer than a CMR drive). They can be OK for write-once archival.

5400 RPM class does not mean it spins at 5400 RPM. It means the performance is at least as good as a standard 5400 RPM drive. WD drives routinely beat out competitive benchmarks because they are in the 5400 "class" but spin faster.
One potential solution if you have a good router is to just plug a USB drive into it and share the drive over the LAN.
