You do leave performance on the table, but if you eventually get a high-end dGPU, it's not like you won't get north of 100+ FPS on current titles. Whilst you wait for your dGPU, the 5700G is going to be a much better gaming experience in the meantime. 1080p/720p Med or Low on eSports titles, but another factor is emulation. This CPU can run RPCS3 and Yuzu just fine w/ the Vulkan backend. Plus, the power draw is less, and if you pair this with a 500W PSU, there should be plenty power left for a RTX 3070 when prices stop being so high.

If you're ok with the price premium associated with the Alder Lake boards and plan on getting a dGPU in the next 12 months, go with the Intel. But if you're not going anywhere near a dGPU for over a year, I don't think you should overlook the 5700G.

Good price. Just $10 more than the in-store only Microcenter deal for $280.

Plus a few cards will get you 5% off which is $275.50 through Amazon.

Newegg also has this CPU on sale for $290 (after $20 coupon) if anyone has a gift card they need to use or something.

edit

Now I just need to find a good mini itx mobo. 😅

I'm new to this my son is looking for the 5800. How much of a difference are between the two. I searched it up, doesn't seem like much based on numbers. Anyone hands on, have any input. He is planning to use it with his 3060ti. Currently sporting a Ryzen 5.

I was tempted to get this deal on the 5700G and return the 5800X that I recently bought for $342 at Amazon. Performance on 5700G is almost as good and the integrated GPU could be useful. However, I don't want to lose PCIe 4.0, which is not supported on the 5700G. Fortunately, I have a 5-year old graphics card that will hold me over until I can get a better card.

Micro Center has it for $79 - $20 if you buy it w/ this cpu at $279. You should be able to find it below $80 elsewhere. Needs a bios update though, with a gen 1, 2, or 3 ryzen.

This is the same reason why I am returning my 5600g. Didn't realize the G versions don't support Pcie 4. Picked up the 5800x for $325.

I'm looking to rebuild my moderate gaming machine. Is this a good processor for that? What is a good mobo to pair with it?

Edit: just saw it has integrated graphics…with my older GPU I assume this is useless

Bought it 2 days too early for $320. Newegg won't price match since it a BF price. Bummer.
