From an Amazon Q&A:

Chamberlain MyQ offers a subscription for connecting your device to smart home services such as IFTTT, & Google assistant. The subscription will allow you to automate various features with your smart devices. The cost for this subscription will be $1 a month or $10 a year. Although Amazon Key, Nest, & Xinfinity home integration does not require a subscription and can be integrated for free.

Apart from integrating chamberlain Myq to smart home services such as IFTTT & Google assistant, chamberlain's other features are completely free. This includes using the chamberlain app to check your garage history to see at what times were your garage open & closed as well as if it was left open. You will be able to add an alert to set your garage on a timer if it is left open for a time chosen by you say 5 minutes it will automatically close on its own. The app will also allow you to open and close your garage remotely.

Can second this. Bought this exact one earlier this month, has been working fine with no fee.

Need another sensor, its cheaper to pick this up then just the sensor.

It appears the sensor is battery driven for myq? This is a point of failure and is a hassle to change battery from time to time. I would prefer one that has hard wired.
it takes like 10 seconds to change the battery, i just did it on mine.

There is a "hole" in compatibility on some newer Genie openers. Most notably silentmax line.

I won't go into a big spiel on this but after having one of the black models work forever, and it then NOT work on a new opener despite Chamberlain saying it would, then giving me the runaround on support, I got a meross unit and haven't looked back.

Anyone who tried the Lomata Smart Wi-Fi door opener [amazon.com] or Meross [amazon.com] where the door sensor are wired and doesn't require battery and how it compares to this?

I'm not a fan that the sensors uses coin cell batteries unless it can last over a year at least.

I have one of these. I was on the verge of ripping it out because of inconsistent behavior (works fine for a few hours, then no response for hours, then works fine, etc.). After spending way too much time on this, it looks that the issue may involve multicast DNS, and was a known issue on Unifi/Ubiquiti equipment. I upgraded the software for all my WiFi access points and my switch (and am working on potentially swapping out my router). I also enabled every option I could for multicast DNS in my network equipment and *fingers crossed* so far it's been working perfectly for a few days.

If it craps out on me again, I'll rip it out and replace with the Meross opener.

I have the previous version and it's been working fine for me, wondering at this price if it's worth upgrading.

Just read there is a subscription fee, FYI
I have the product. Subscription fee is only to link it to your smart home platform. You can still open and close the garage with the app for free. Also Amazon key works without a subscription.

Curious, can you set alert/notification if your door has been open longer than a certain amount of time without subscription? How about Alexa integration "Alexa, open garage door" ?
Nope, Alexa can't open anything on MyQ without a really hacky, unreliable third-party app. The (more expensive competitor) Genie Aladdin Connect works with Alexa, to both open and close.

I was so frustrated that I hooked up an Aladdin Connect to my brand new MyQ-equipped Chamberlain. MyQ sucks by comparison.

Can I use both the phone and home link in my car to operate the garage door? I set one up couple years ago and home link stopped working afterwards
Yes, exactly how I use it.

I believe the only differences are its color, a slightly different solution for mounting the device, and the new one has bluetooth. Basically once it is installed, the only real practical differences in my opinion are the color and the battery on the sensor will last longer.

As for the subscription fee, one does exist but it is only needed if you plan on hooking your garage door up to a supported 3rd party app.
Why would the battery last longer? Any ideas on how much longer?

I've had the old version black MyQ, a DIY 5V self-locking WiFi switch module, a Meross, and this new version MyQ. I have not tried the Lomata.

The old MyQ was garbage, inconsistently worked. Battery didn't last long on the sensor before I had to change it.

The DIY solution worked okay and integrated with Alexa but you had to set up a numerical code it would ask you for anytime you opened the door. At first I used the previously installed MyQ sensor and MyQ app to know whether the door was up or down and eventually just relied on a Wyze cam in the garage to verifiy that the door status.

Then I bought the Meross with the hard-wired sensor which worked okay, definitely more reliable than the original MyQ. It would integrate with Google and you could open the door with a spoken numerical code.

I bought this latest version of MyQ in April and it's been the most reliable and easiest to install of any option so far. The only issue is it doesn't allow you to open the door with google or alexa even with a code. The subscription only allows you to close the door, not open it unless something has changed or someone knows a work around.

I prefer this latest MyQ even though I have to use the app to operate the door mostly because of the reliability.

You can get notified that the garage door has been open but you can only choose between being notified "immediately" or after "10 minutes". That's it. No Alexa integration unless you pay the subscription fee for IFTTT which is a huge disappointment.

THIS IS WRONG (as pointed out below), you CAN choose a notification time up to 24 hours long! Still no Alexa integration though Frown

Thanks OP for posting this deal at $17. It is a great price, but as others have noted, you must have a compatible garage opener for MyQ to work. I happen to have a marantec opener and this is not compatible with it. I had looked into MyQ a while back, hoping they had broadened the supported garage openers to include marantec but thats still not the case.

So, in trying to seek a solution, I went with Nexx brand of garage openers. They I believe are universal type of openers that works by connecting two wires to the push button terminals of your existing garage opener. So for those who can't use the MyQ, there are other options like Nexx to consider. Their customer service is very responsive and get back to you via email pretty quickly.

If you have ontech membership or plan on getting them for installing some other smart device, myQ + installation is on a deal for $5. Did it recently with the Google nest doorbell + nest mini + free membership deal from OnTech.
