Open box option for $597 fyi
The $597 is for "Open-Box Excellent" which has the following...
  • Looks brand new
  • Includes all original parts/accessories
  • Typically contains packaging

Worth the risk of saving 50 bucks over new?

FYI to everyone. I have this TV. The software is alittle buggy, but its gotten better with firmware updates. Its pretty usable now without issues if you disable the quick start (if you dont there's still issues with the wifi not connecting after the tv resumes)

i have an xbox series s hooked up to it, and the 120hz looks fabulous. Been playing Halo infinity on it in performance mode and it looks great. Forza 5 though not 120hz also plays and looks great.

I'm pretty happy with the TV.

Considering buying the "Open-Box Excellent" but does anybody know if I would still have until the first of the year to return if there's an issue?

I understand an extended warranty is available. Just wondering if the holiday return window applies to open-box TVs.

EXTENDED HOLIDAY RETURN PERIOD
When purchased now through Jan 2, you can return this item anytime until Jan 16.

Ah ok my bad, I believe they have a different return window but that might be worth asking a rep just in case

I purchased the 75" from BB and got a bad panel (circular DSE) and they had none available to ship to me at the time and would only issue me a refund. Wasn't worth waiting for another potentially bad panel and bought a Sony. Nice TV for the price if you win the panel lottery.
Same thing here. Horrible panel and multiple other issues. I didn't even ask for an exchange. I had Best Buy deliver a Sony X90J and take the TCL back. I'm sticking with Sony. I've always had good luck with their products. My X900E is still going strong.

Do I return the U8G for this?
I think if you got a good panel no, but the 55" u8g does have some unresolved issues that they fixed on the 65" u8g.

I've never bought an open box TV, but I have just about everything else and never had a problem

Sony will always be better. Great swap.
Like u said, if u win the Panel lottery , should be good... I have an older tcl 6 r625 qled 65" from 2 years ago still going strong, but not mini led like this. Though, Got it for only $595.
But recently I sometimes notice some odd clouding off an angle with grey screens in the dark. But Straight normal viewing looks perfect....however Motion wasn't the greatest on the older models.
I'll upgrade after the next great advanced tech comes out in the next few years.

I know it's anecdotal and I'm sure there are plenty of good and bad experiences out there.

However, I'll share my most recent experience with a Best Buy "Open-Box" Excellent TV purchase.

Just like you I saw a TCL 55R635 for a really great price "Open-Box Excellent". So I went ahead and purchased it to give as a gift to a family member.

When I went to the store, it was a local Best Buy Outlet. It's built like a mini-warehouse with plenty of "open-box" appliances inside. So I went ahead to the front desk and waited for my TV. The people working there seemed confused and told me to follow them. As I followed them around the warehouse to pick up my TV I noticed many of the boxes were beat up and damaged. Didn't think nothing of it at the moment, then she brought out my TCL and the box was damaged (didn't look good or presentable) especially for a gift. I had a suspicion and asked her to open it so I could look inside and it was not properly packaged and missing accessories like the remote and manual. Open-Box Excellent stated that everything was included in the box.

She went and asked her manager and he literally walked to another box and grabbed the remote out of there and threw it in my box. That was a red flag but I assumed they do this all the time.

Long story short, when I got home, something told me to take the TV out and test it before I give it to my family member. When I did, the remote wasn't even the correct remote and the TV did not look "excellent". Like at all. I was irritated but just returned it as I don't have high expectations with the young Best Buy employees.

No harm, no foul. They took my return with no hassle and refunded me my money. However, the whole entire process of going there, getting it, carrying it back to return etc… left a foul taste in my mouth - so to speak.

So tread carefully with Best Buy. They've been slacking lately with many purchases I've made there the past two years. Lot of mistakes and errors and such.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Helped a lot, just ordered a brand new one for $ 50 more instead of open box. Also used the $25 off with PayPal.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. Much obliged - Rep given
