I wonder how this compares to the MSI Spatrium M470 that people ordered with the $20 rebate.
This one is pcie 3 for starters, while the spatium is pcie 4 and has as bit higher read and write speeds. Rated durability is also lower at 600 tbw vs 1600 on the spatium.

Oh ok. So hands on experience for several years with using one isn't your idea of "educated" then? Way to wow us with your expertise, professor
Typical slick deals users right there. I check benchmarks and performance reports and when it comes to NVMe these are the best for the price. There's ways to find them cheap always
Also Sammie is also the best speed for the price MicroSD
Oops. I guess you are the one who just got educated
Not the one who originally responded to you, but you still haven't actually given people any reason to believe you, other than claiming several years of experience and vague allusions to "benchmarks and performance reports." But, anyway, he was responding to your first post, which was decidedly useless.

Fanboy alert…anyone who says "this brand or no brand" is automatically disqualified from being an expert or having an objective view on comparing the value of said hardware. Are Samsung drives nice, yes, very much so. Are there other alternatives out there that compete based on speed, reliability, and value - absolutely.
I can't have drives failing. For me reliability first, then speed. I've mostly bought Intel, Crucial and Samsung for that reason. I didn't see the MSI deal so I don't know what the final cost of a 1TB drive was. If MSI or other brands are reliable and faster at comparable price, I'd go for them. Is the MSI as reliable as those other brands?
The Samsung 980 is the only one of the bunch without DRAM cache *yet it scores 2nd to highest in benchmarks. From my research, there's lots of comments on how terrible DRAM-less SSD's are but it seems that Samsung overcame that obstacle by optimizing their controller/firmware to compensate? Also, apparently the speed differences won't be that significantly noticeable for general usage, OS drive, gaming, etc. Maybe if you're transferring very large files often, only then you might notice a bit of a slowdown with some DRAM-less drives, maybe.
This was my findings after a few quick searches. I'm not an expert but my take on it is: unless you're transferring very large files, very often, the performance differences are negligible. Get the cheapest one in the class, in the size you want or go for a larger size in a marginally lower-performing drive at a lower cost.
Edit: I had previously linked to the 980 Pro, disregard this part.
