Best Buy doesn't sell Elements, they have their "own" model (Easystore) so they don't have to price-match.

They don't match prices with promo codes anyways.
It's strange you had this experience.. I've shucked a fair number of both Elements and Easystores and the disks are typically the same. I think the vibration dampening in the Easystore cases is probably inferior, but unless there are significant firmware differences, the heat issue you had is odd.
I can say that there is an insignificant difference in temps once these drives are loaded into a cooled disk shelf, and the performance is identical.
