Zen4 will be same way later this year changing to LGA and DDR5 memory motherboards will be $200+ just like Z690

Most reviewers recommend DDR4 at this point since the gains are minor over the price you pay. I got the Gigabyte Z690 UD AX DDR4 motherboard and this RAM:

My experience could not be further from this. It's completely lacking core features of W10, like basic taskbar functionality that is an absolute nightmare to use -- can't unstack windows, forced to use thumbnails instead of window names, completely wasting 80% of the real estate of the task bar which you can't customize or change at all now. No second tool tray or clock on secondary monitors. Games that ran perfectly fine right up to the upgrade constantly hang, crash, black screen, etc. It wrecks VR stability and performance, and I constantly have to restart Steam VR and my computer to get games to even launch. My task bar icons on my secondary monitor scramble themselves into a spaced out mess randomly half a dozen times per day, where they get overlapped on top of each other and scattered into the empty space in the task bar, but the actual clickable area for the window sits in the original now-invisible spaces, and the only way to fix it is to restart the explorer process each time. I have yet to find one single good thing to say about this half baked pile of spaghetti code, and it won't be touched by a single business until they can achieve the basic stability and functionality of W10. It's insane that they removed so much basic content that is imperative to productivity.

For gaming, the 5600x is more than enough. The 12700k would be a huge step up if you're running CPU intensive apps. 12700k would probably give you 10-15 more frames at 1080p gaming but at 1440p, very little real world difference. If I were gaming only, I probably would have saved some money and gone with a $210 i5 12400 and a $170-$200 B660 board which will does 1-3% better in games and saves you money.

If anyone is looking for a mid range board to pair this with, I'd go for an MSI MPG Z690 Edge Wifi. This is a DDR4 board so you can stick with the cheaper DDR4 for now. As for cooler, the best cheap solution I'd go with is a Scythe Fuma 2 Air Cooler for only $60. The 12700k performs better than the $520 Ryzen 5900x. That's unbelievable.

I'm in a similar boat and going for the 12400 over the 5600x. it's $100-130 less for the 12400 and it's getting the same or better performance all around. b660 board with ddr4 ram cost about the same so you end up with a very similar performance and power draw while costing around $100 less.

You got more details? I'm pretty sure TPM is used by the OS for encryption key storage. If game developers need uniqueness to ban you, there are many other ways. Seems an odd use of TPM, if they even can access it from a game/anti-cheat software.

It's not odd. It's good for Hardware ban system. An actual TPM is not in your storage but your motherboard. Present hack tools can neutralize Anti cheating system including hardware ban with TPM though.
