Be forewarned! I bought this unit weeks ago from Walmart. Had a problem and contacted Hisense about it since Walmart was out of stock. Hisense refused any kind of warranty claim by saying that Walmart is NOT an authorized dealer of their products, only Lowes and Costco are valid retailers. Be aware of this glitch!
Walmart's inventory system is powered by two hamsters on an exercise wheel.
Actually only Lowes is an official retailer. Costco is not listed on their website for this product.
I have this model and I really like it. It cools my apartment room quickly and isn't too loud and doesn't wake me up when I'm sleeping. I've never had to drain it yet either. I'd definitely recommend it.
but not when you click where to buy on the actual air conditioner, idk maybe they have different authorized retailers for different products I would at least call again and ask again
Yeah, it says "To identify an authorized Hisense reseller and ensure that you qualify for the benefits above, Authorized resellers are listed on Hisense's Where to Buy button."
Got this from lowes around 2 years ago. It broke a little after more than a year. It would work fine for around a minute or two, then would make a grumbling noise and shakes then cold air turns off and only the fan is on. Called hisense and they replaced it, so far so good.
Are you sure it was this model? They just introduced these last year (2021).

How do these compare power and cooling wise to an equivalent mini split?
It depends mostly on the compressor efficiency, and the fact that the compressor heat of this kind of unit stays inside the room/house, whereas with a mini-split, it is of course outside the house. If the BTU/hr rating is the same for this unit and a mini split you are looking at, you shouldn't really notice a difference if you aren't cooling too big of a space. And don't forget to consider NOISE. These units are loud. A mini-split is not (only room sound is fan of the indoor unit).

that seems unlikely, i have never heard of the one yr mfr warranty required by law on most products being dependent on who sold it. sounds fishy, maybe the typical sd user error.

As has been mentioned a mini split though is a whole other kettle of wax and many many times more expensive and likely needs professional expensive install+electrician to meet code as well. It is more a permanent whole home solution.
Just not really comparable to something that costs $350 and can be pulled around to different rooms.
The midea u-shaped window units are also a really interesting option, somewhere in between the mini split and this, would depend on one's needs.
As for noise I hope it is noisy, I run a box fan on high for white noise to sleep too lol.
It has a drain but it does evaporate most of it. I've had to drain when humidity is over 60% since it can't evaporate all of it and eventually fills tray and drips on floor. Low Humidity areas no need to drain
Do you use it just for dehumidifying? I've had this unit for a couple years how and use it only for A/C. I recall reading in the manual that A/C mode will exhaust the excess condensation but running as dehumidifier will require draining.

U-shaped are the most efficient temporary/portable AC. I'd have gone that route but pretty much everything built out here on the west coast in the past 15-20 years has windows that slide horizontally, unless its a small window for a bathroom. Sigh.
I have the unit from OP and it does work great, but kind of a chore to install/uninstall (and get the gaps sealed up). Thankfully only need to do it once per season.

That's messed up. One could purchase another from Lowes, get Hisense to help you with your broken one and then return the unused one back to Lowes.
