I had call with ATT loyalty department, they are offering Samsung phones for good discount. This is 24month contract with one time payment

S21 : $199 - $50 one time credit.
S21 FE : $149
S20 FE: $1
NOTE series is not available.

You can take S21 for $150 and wait to s22 release then trade-in. Last year for S21 release Samsung gave $700 credit for S20 model.

Please heed the advice of others in this thread. After reading the advice, I called in to make certain there would be no plan changes or additional charges. First rep said no absolutely not, then came back on the line and said upon researching further, an access fee of $40 would be charged from now on. Luckily was able to cancel before this happened -- ONLY because I was lucky and had not agreed to terms of service. Manager that I eventually spoke to said most people aren't even aware of the changes that will happen. Really, really poor training. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SIGNING UP FOR.

About Above statement:
I was a former low level executive reasponsible for a large sales team at ATT, what you're talking about is the old Mobile Share / Mobile share value plans. Access fees for many of them are $40 per line, with a $25 discount for being out of contract (or bringing your own phone or financing your phone on their NEXT program at the time).
Since getting a 2yr contract with subsidy is only available through retentions this piece isn't hightlighted anywhere anymore. So while the rep is absolutley correct that your plan doesn't change at all, losing the discount is an automatic hardwired process that they will not be able to change at will, and if they're not familar enough with the nuences of an old plan they won't know.

TLDR;If you sign a contract and you're on one of these old mobile share (value) plans ($40 -$25 = $15 per line) you will lose this discount if you sign. No matter what the rep says.If you're on literally any other plan you're fine.

All of these deals should be clearly stated that you need to be on an unlimited plan. It's been that way for many years now. Even if CS tells you that you can keep your non unlimited plan, or in many cases they don't tell you at all lol. There's many threads on here of older loyalty deals where people's plans get changed, even when specifically told it wouldn't. So either get on an unlimited plan, or don't even bother with this deal

If you're invested in the Apple/iOS ecosystem (iMessage, iCloud, Apple Watch), then its definitely not worth switching. Hardware features wise, I doubt you would notice a difference between them, but if you're happy on iOS, probably going to be happier staying there, otherwise, give Android a try.

I am certain if you do the 24 month thing, you can't actually trade that phone in for S22. ATT will force you to keep the same phone for 24 months

Do you have some sort of discount? Unlimited Extra is $65 each line for two lines on their website. That means $130 + Taxes each month, but somehow you're paying around $100.

Edit: I reread what you said before and realized you got a 25% discount. Sorry about that!

I'm pretty sure he meant trading in to Samsung since they give trade in bonuses on new phone launches and the phone would be unlocked.

Just FYI, for all those older non unlimited plans, if you get a new phone on contract then it will make all phone lines with a $20 "discounted" fee go up to $40. If they say it is just signing up for bill credits/installment plans and it is not a contract, then the fee won't go up.

The original line fee is for phones on contract/off contract. They did away with contracts for a few years and heavily pushed installment plans (to keep people with them for 24 to 30 months), and now for some reason bringing contracts back. But the word "contract" is what someone would need to confirm with CS during calls if you want to be careful about the line fee.

Yep, that's exactly what happened in my case

Whoever is considering this route, BEWARE!!! This 24 months contract they will put you on is not eligible for any promotions. So, depending on what your current plan is, your monthly fee for the line you're upgrading might go up (whether they tell you about it or not during the conversation)! I just spent 1.5 months in very frustrating calls with AT&T trying to get out of a similar deal.

Here is my story. Last November I called the customer loyalty department and got a Samsung S20 FE for a "special price of $180" + tax. All I had to do was to sign a 24 months contract. At the time, I had 6 lines on a grandfathered 15GB Mobile Share plan paying a $15 access fee per line. I specifically mentioned to the CRS that I wanted to keep my plan and was assured that that'd be the case. The MSRP for the phone is $699.

I went on vacation and, since I have auto-payment set up, didn't check my bill until after I came back at the end of December. To my surprise, the access fee for my line changed to $40, meaning that after 2 years I would've paid 180 + (40-15)*24 = $780 for the phone that I could've bought for $699 straight. So, in the past month, I spoke with 6 different people in customer loyalty (including managers) and went to a nearby corporate store. I was getting a different story every time I called. The only thing I was told consistently by all of them was that there was no way to re-apply the line access fee discount and make it $15 again.

They ruined my New Year since I spent most of New Year's Eve on the phone with them and most of New Year's Day running around trying to find a new phone so that I could return the one I bought from AT&T and cancel the contract. Which was pointless anyway, because even though customer loyalty told me I could still do it before January 2 as "buyer's remorse", when I showed up at the corporate store I got laughed at. So, I returned the replacement phone I bought and keep calling customer loyalty.

Long story short, I was forced to upgrade my 6 lines to the Unlimited plan to get out of this 2-year contract. In the end, it worked out "OK" since they "lumped in" the monthly installments I was paying for 2 other phones I bought earlier for my family members and gave me $300 credit. So, the price I'm paying now is comparable to what I was paying before. But it definitely caused me some grief! So, we've been warned!

Thank you very much for articulating so nicely even though you are frustrated. I have now put off my thought of calling loyalty. Appreciate it 👍👍

You ruined my week. I just traded in my iPhone 11 Pro Max for my iPhone 13 Pro Max and am still paying about $10/mo AFTER giving them my iPhone 11.

I was out of any contract and the phone was paid off. I could have done this. Waaaaaaah...
