Metacritic user reviews are a 5.7! People either absolutely love it or absolutely hate it, but it's split about 50 50. I just can't see how a game could be so love/hate.
50 50, just like the political climate that I would rather stay away from. I buy games to escape the non-stop politics and division being thrown at us from every angle. It would be refreshing if games could just be games again.

It's a great game guys don't listen to anyone else play it for yourself.
Correction: went back and tried again, was able to install base game and 5GB update file for a total of aorund 83GB. Not sure what happened the first time around.

If you are a fan of the first game like I am, just skip this one. TLOU2 tries to be different for the sake of being different, at the cost of destroying your bond with the characters you love in the first game.
Without spoiling I can't really tell you too much about the disastrous storytelling, but in general, the game feels very presumptuous in forcing players to accept the decisions made by the game director. The pace of the game is very strange; it throws you a large, relaxing, love-story rich open-world after an emotional shock. Also, some characters are portrayed very badly. e.g. Sam was trying to protect the protagonist and convince her out of a rash decision, but all of a sudden became so aggressive and almost forced her to do something extreme and dangerous.
Gameplay-wise, roughly 50% of the game is refreshing, carefully designed, and a huge improvement over the first game. The rest 50% of the game has OK gameplay that is very similar to the first game.

It blows my mind that this game has been out over a year and half, won numerous awards, sold very well, got picked up by HBO for a live action series and yet, people that have a problem with the story still have the energy to post in every single deal thread pertaining to it.
Also, the second game has not been selling too well. The only sales figure that they publish was one week after the release (4 million, mostly thanks to the reputation and success of the first game), and after one year and a half, they've remained silent as the dead. It might help you understand why so many people hate it. A lot of people pre-ordered the game---like me--- because they love the first game, and some were disappointed by the second game.
But I agree with you that the energy of hatred is just not necessary. People should never get death threats or insults just because they make a bad game.
