those cost almost as much as the planer itself. I've never used one, but I'm positive most home woodworkers can use the straight blades perfectly fine.

Do you have any insight on this company? It's hard to compare a random Chinese company that can go away tomorrow with a trusted name like DeWalt. I'm not saying it's not a good product, because I've never used or heard of it, but if my experiences with knockoff Chinese Amazon companies is any indication, it could be here today and gone tomorrow. There's a good chance this thing won't be working flawlessly a couple of years from now. Having a company to get parts from later, stand behind warranties, and hopefully create safe tools for the operator, is worth a lot.

To be fair, there are some Chinese tool companies producing better tools than their U.S. and German counterparts in their category, so I'm not necessarily knocking the country of origin as much as the no name aspect that still proliferates in the low price market.

So here's the deal. I don't own one, and don't plan on getting one. I was just responding to the guy who wanted to argue with me even though the first thing I said this was a good deal, for some reason. I was just showing there are deals out there for spiral planers if the bar is set that it's just for a homeowner. Seems like most seem happy with cutech, but I cannot speak from my own experience.

I read his response as meaning that the commonly used [helical] spiral replacement blades for the DeWalt thickness planer are expensive, as he was distinguishing the tool from the blade with his comment.

There was a better deal posted yesterday on the same planer anyway.
