It'll cost you $10 in hydrogen to go 25 miles.
Also we have to pause to think on where or how the electricity is produced to charge these things. Generating electricity and pushing it down the grid has eficiantcy losses too. Wind is neat, and sun is cool, but both are not exactly dependable. We now use natural gas power plants to help balance the dependability problems as they can power up and power down fairly quickly compaired to coal or the most ecofriendly Nuke power plants. They take a lot of time to adjust to the loads in the scale needed. Natural gas is still not what you want . Nukes are what you want, but none have been built in 30+ years. The idea of us replacing oil for transportation will not and can not happen unless the grid is ready for it and it is not.
Hydrogen could be a good transportation alternitive in that in liquid form it is spot dispensible quickly as compaird to football sized charging stations taking hours to complete a charge. If a windmill could be fitted to convert water in to hydrogen and oxigen, and hydrogen stored in a way a oil rig does, then we might have something. Homes could be fitted for fuel cells. Cars could be filled at home. No big ass power lines stretching across the nation. Less risk of a EMP bringing the grid down.. Far less polutin in the mining and production of rare earth minerals and the scaring mining does.. I am all in on hydrogen, but battery tech is just dumb, but it is how Tesla got Musk ritch..
Folks might forget that CAFE standards require carbon offsets. The of sets are what the batery car companies are selling to Ford,GM and Dodge so they can sell the vehical folks want, A 4x4 SUV..
A huge Truck requires HUGE batterys. The weight of the batterys come at the cost of range. Again the scale of energy required to do the work a 18 wheeler is enormus. So yea it might be feasible for say known route truck on limited hours of use, but the bulk of 18 wheelers run closer to 24/7. A "fleet" of batery trucks will only work in quite limited and calculated work loads..
Long story short.. I dont realy see a battery powerd future, but hope for a hydrogen one. If you think if you just had more investment in to battery tech , chargers and mandates , you are smoking what Musk was on Joe Rogen.. Nukes were canceled because of what to do with the waste, yet no one knows what to do with all the battery waste either.

14 to $16 last time in the Bay Area. Better have a spare car for days when no fuel too.
