FedEx Freight called to schedule delivery and told me it was 228 pounds. I will be at the office during delivery, so I told my wife to take it downstairs for me.
Bought this in the last sale thinking it would be a great upgrade to my PB12-NSD. Despite being much larger and heavier, it is much more "muddy" than the PB12 even after tuning and having to keep all the port plugs (without the plugs, it sounded like a cheap sub that was being over-powered). If I could return it easily, I would but it was an effort of will for us to even get this moved into my theater room and of course, placement is limited due to its size/weight. I know others will disagree, but stick with SVS.

Are you sure you correctly set the subwoofer up?
What size is your room?

i agree. both are decent products, but if you are looking for the higher quality / better sounding sub, SVS is a better choice, but not everyone has the budget for that.

Thanks. Not sure why you're getting TD here but this is a helpful comparison.

Did you do any troubleshooting? I'm guess you have. While searching, did not come across other peoples experiences that were similar not yours? I've not done much research on them, but the little I have done I have not come across much of what you mentioned

I know this is apples and oranges but I got their Sw15 for $250 and it does a surprisingly decent job. Not going to compare at all to this or an SVS, but it is also ~1/5 the price.
Seems like the sale price was 999, then 1099, now up to 1199....
I'm not sure if this increasing sale price is due to this being V2, although I don't know the difference between V1 and V2, or maybe inflation, or maybe just not as good as a sale as before.....
Thoughts.....?
Probably both especially with everything that is going on now.
I compared both versions and sound wise, performance is incremental at best.
Unless they have another sale on V1(unlikely) this is the new sale price.

I have an svs pb12, in a space that's basically 12 x 16 but with an open floorplan. Would this be overkill as an upgrade?

I have compared the brands in multiple layouts and I would agree overall Monolith sounds more "muddy" vs SVS.
To be fair you would probably be better off comparing it to the 12/13" Monolith but would still be more muddy IMO.
Both are great brands, it comes down to preference & expectations on which one choose.

Seems odd that they would be "muddy" and also THX certified. I'm guessing that you either did not EQ them properly for your space, are an SVS shill, or both.

I got the V1 when it dropped to $999. Not sure on the V2s upgrades⦠but the thing rocks the house at 1/3 volume and produces some insane lows!
As for the muddy comments, I run mine with the center port plugged. I feel it has good, accurate punch on my system consisting of a Pioneer amp and Klipsch reference premiere supporting speakers.

Keep in mind they hold these sales regularly so it will likely pop up again in the near future IMO.
