TLDR: Buy the Gaming Z over the Gaming X if you have the choice as both are the exact same price, but do not be upset if you can only get the X variant as it is still a very powerful card.
Both MSI 6900 XT cards are on sale at Micro Center for the same price.
MSI AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming Z Trio Overclocked Triple-Fan 16GB GDDR6 PCIe 4.0 Graphics Card [microcenter.com] - $1099 w/ $50 MIR
MSI AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming X Trio Triple-Fan 16GB GDDR6 PCIe 4.0 Graphics Card [microcenter.com] - $1099 w/ $50 MIR
The difference is the version of the chip being used.
Gaming Z - XTXH chip
Gaming X - Non-XTXH chip

Summary: The AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT currently has two variations, a standard variant that features the Navi 21 XT GPU and a binned variant featuring the Navi 21 XTXH GPU. Both of these variants are known as Radeon RX 6900 XT. The XTXH chip allows for higher voltage and thus higher overclocking potential. However, if you're just planning on placing this into your computer do not feel like you're missing out by buying the Gaming X trio as they will perform very similarly.

Care to elaborate on whatever the heck it is you're talking about?
XTX are still above MSRP
I wonder if I'll have to wait for next gen or tariff removal to buy a card without selling a limb, but then high inflation kicks in for the next year or two

MSRP for 6900 XT is $1000 for reference cards. $50 more for the XTXH chip seems entirely reasonable!

Supposedly AMD is going to announce the RX6x5x refresh (RX 6750, 6850, 6950) next month. Intel is finally bringing the GPU they've been working on out (to laptops first though), and Nvidia is supposed to announce the RTX 4k cards in a few months. So prices should start coming down even more soon I hope I've been holding out on replacing my GTX1070.
