Highly recommend these.

I got a set of the black ones about 6 months ago and they have been problem-free. I work in IT and these have a surprising number of advanced features - much more than you get from the competitors.

I've used many other mesh systems including Velop, Orbi, Eero, and Google wifi. None of them can compare to the speeds and reliability that I've seen from the XT8's. Picking up another set for my parents house!

Asus routers including mesh router systems tend to have issues with Verizon fios for some reason, a lot of people on the SNB forums report the same. You may need to put a gigabit switch between your ONT and the router to achieve gigabit speeds. Sounds wonky but worked for some people
Yes. I've tried everything suggested and it still is slower than other systems I've used like Orbi. Especially uploads suffer. It's frustrating.

For a 3 story 4,500 sq ft house, what's the best location with these 2? I have to put one in basement since all the wires are terminated there. And if I put in second floor, then would it work without issues and provide good coverage on first floor?

Center of the house basement, center of the house 2nd floor. Ethernet backhaul.

Might pull the trigger on these... been looking for a mesh system. My current router is an R7800 Netgear Nighthawk X4S.

So with all the positive comments and even a few mentions of firmware, what is the best / most stable firmware version? Yes - I am opening up that box...

I have an old AC68U. Instead of buying another XT8. Can I use the AC68 with these in mesh to extent my signal. I want to reach my backyard/pool with decent WIFI for music.

How does one run one of these mesh setups when you have several hardwired devices you'd like to keep hardwired?

Yes, these are compatible with any other ASUS AIMesh capable unit (like your AC68U).

Just picked these up, have a TP link AX5700 2pk from Costco since December, it works ok but the lack of advanced settings has me going nuts, will be returning that system if this one pans out.

Fingers crossed

Hmmm this or 3-Pk TP-Link Deco AXE5300 from costco? Anyone have a thought?
This, I have a Deco AX5700 from costco and it lacks a ton of advanced features that are standard on most routers.

Not everyone needs the advanced features. Great speed and coverage without disconnects is all I care about.

No DMZ, port forwarding is a miss sometimes, not vpn option, mediocre QoS.

I've been mostly satisfied with mine. Bought a refurbished set, and while I've had to reboot the satellite once, and suffered from disconnection issues from the satellite, I've been happy with it. Sometimes my iPhone struggles with the hand off between nodes (watching a video, it'll begin to buffer when I move between floors), but again, overall satisfied.
