Black and white is the only way to watch this film. Seeing it in color robs some of the authentic nature, imo. However it is a great movie everyone should see once in their life. I watch it every few months to be honest. Great performances, uplifting, realistic. One for the ages.
For anyone sincerely wanting to know the answer to this…yes. The story is similar to Ebenezer Scrooge, except he's a good man going through hard times and doesn't know how blessed he really is. Actually the Nicolas Cage movie The Family Man is almost a remake of this film. Lead role is Jimmy Stewart who also starred in the great Hitchcock movies Rear Window and Vertigo. It's got some hard moments, like the scene with the drunk store owner…but for a black and white movie it's got some in-your-face emotion and a really great ending. And it's a Christmas movie. So yes, get it.
Black and White is 4k

From a practicality standpoint, you can stream this movie with Amazon Prime for free. Since I know I'll always have a Prime subscription, I think I'll save the $10 and the extra clutter from something I watch once a year.

Streaming options come and go..... and are not as good quality as UHD Blu-ray.... if that matters.
Nick the bartender is Sheldon Leonard and Big Bang Theory characters pay homage to him. Last time I was confused about whether or not a word had two m's it was humus and hummus. Never eat humus, tastes like dirt.

Public domain movie; it has no copyright protection. Yet, companies still cash in on it. Absolutely, a fantastic movie, though!
This actually hasn't been true for about 30 years now. Despite letting their original copyright lapse, Republic was able to assert their copyright based on active copyrights around the original story and music score.
Allowing the film to lapse into the public domain for a while DID allow PBS to run it endlessly, which ironically did help people rediscover it and catapulted it into the popularity it still enjoys today.
By today's standards, you stand online at the airport for three hours for the honor of being probed by a security agent before getting on a plane where you sit on the runway for two hours sipping your tepid plastic cup of soda and getting yelled at by the grizzled flight attendant for not having your seat back at an exact 90 degree angle.
Not too long ago, air travel meant walking straight from your car to the gate, clean airports, being treated with respect, and enjoying amazing food and comfort fit for royalty.

Today's standards can go suck an egg.
