Just be prepared for the possibility of receiving damaged drives. NewEgg does crappy packing. I won't buy drives from them.

They're regular drives, just have some firmware optimization for big arrays and better resiliency against vibrations from adjacent drives. I have seven of the X10 in my system, and they're just regular SATA and power.

Yep. Consumer SATA drives are normally in the high 20's dB for noise. This drive is 32dB to 34dB. Remember decibels are logarithmic so this isn't as small a difference as it seems.

unclear if any warranty exists and it's not worth the chance of going through hoops getting newegg to honor a warranty down the line. maybe you can get one through your credit card, but likely only a year or 2 extra
Credit card warranties will ONLY extend an existing valid warranty. If there is no warranty on the drive there is no credit card extension.

Got two of these during the pandemic, though they came in an enclosure that I shucked. Been using them for about two years now, both looked good when tested and have held up great! $200 is what I paid for them, too.

I was also extremely cautious since I got burned on Seagate's 3TB drives 10 years ago, but these seem to be much more reliable.

Edit: these drives don't have a warranty. Slight risk there.

In the past when they have shipped me a dead drive, they won't do anything about it either.

Yes it's CMR.
you can't get better stuff than enterprise category and enterprise stuff is rated for heavy disk/io workloads.

He's referring to the fact that you have to tapemod a power connector pin or use molex adapters for some drives (thought it was just some shucked WD drives but might apply to seagate as well) to get them to boot when used outside of their enclosure.
