Just be prepared for the possibility of receiving damaged drives. NewEgg does crappy packing. I won't buy drives from them.

They're regular drives, just have some firmware optimization for big arrays and better resiliency against vibrations from adjacent drives. I have seven of the X10 in my system, and they're just regular SATA and power.

Yep. Consumer SATA drives are normally in the high 20's dB for noise. This drive is 32dB to 34dB. Remember decibels are logarithmic so this isn't as small a difference as it seems.

What?
Not sure he knows what he is talking about. It clearly says SATA. Uses SATA to power the drive.

unclear if any warranty exists and it's not worth the chance of going through hoops getting newegg to honor a warranty down the line. maybe you can get one through your credit card, but likely only a year or 2 extra
Credit card warranties will ONLY extend an existing valid warranty. If there is no warranty on the drive there is no credit card extension.

They may not work with the standard power connector. If they are like some of the shucked drives.
Pretty sure this is not a shunked drive

Equivalent in what way?
The Exos X16 has better on specs (on paper) than either of those consumer grade WD red drives for lifetime and error rate.
Price is attractive at below $15/tb but I have been using WD for decades. Thinking to buy this seagate or wait until WD red goes on sale again

The x18 is better wtf you talking about , you make no sense. Hence x18 is the better model not x14 with less platters and speed
Thanks for clarifying so succinctly that you have absolutely no idea what your talking about...

I mean of course the x18 is better because it's four x's bigger than x14. LMAO

I wouldn't buy either, but to each their own.

Got two of these during the pandemic, though they came in an enclosure that I shucked. Been using them for about two years now, both looked good when tested and have held up great! $200 is what I paid for them, too.

I was also extremely cautious since I got burned on Seagate's 3TB drives 10 years ago, but these seem to be much more reliable.

Edit: these drives don't have a warranty. Slight risk there.

Man, how the mighty have fallen, I remember Newegg being the please for ordering hardware, now everything I see anyone talk about Newegg, it's about their shady shenanigans and awful customer service.
i build a ton of systems for people, in the past, had no real issues with newegg and would use them when the price was right. now, i go out of my way to avoid newegg. once Hangzhou got control of newegg in 2016, they quickly started to slide in quality and reliability. newegg has done some shady things over the past 5 years. newegg is very much a "buyer beware" experience now. even ebay affords you more protection on their purchases.

In the past when they have shipped me a dead drive, they won't do anything about it either.

Are these drives CMR? Are they a good choice for a home NAS server that is used primarily for media?

Sorry if these are basic questions, but I'm not a very computer savvy guy.

Yes it's CMR.
you can't get better stuff than enterprise category and enterprise stuff is rated for heavy disk/io workloads.

He's referring to the fact that you have to tapemod a power connector pin or use molex adapters for some drives (thought it was just some shucked WD drives but might apply to seagate as well) to get them to boot when used outside of their enclosure.

Wish this was in an external enclosure.
