I recently got a open box rog strix scar 15 with same specs but 240hz qhd and 32gb ram for $1500 after tax. Wondering if i should get this instead due to being lighter weight

Scar 15 has a good amount of GPU performance advantage over this. And I don't think that is a lot heavier than this, around 0.5-0.6 lbs. I would keep the Scar 15 for its better performance with a smaller weight hike.

I own this and have enjoyed it. Battery life is so-so, like many gaming laptops. Performance is good and I really like the display and windows hello webcam.

No need to get confused that much. It's a 3070 ti and that missing "Ti" is a Typo.

Still has 1 soldered ram? Think Lenovo 5 pro is better deal, and can find with 32gb RAM. Unless you really want the i9, not that great a sale.

Worth the extra cost?
If gaming is your priority, then no.

For portability and content creation, this one is better. Is lighter and the screen in this one is 100% DCI-P3 while the Legion is 73% DCI-P3.

I9-12900h vs i7-12700h is not really worth price premium. I'm only commenting on CPU, just because it's i9, doesn't make it as substantial leap from i5 to i7.

Fight me in the comments.

i'm actually planning on using it mostly for content creation (photoshop, some video rendering, so i will increase RAM 100%) and some machine learning (although when i need power i just run things on the cloud).
Portability is not THAT important, but helps.

Simply put, you are paying $200 more for a bigger SSD (1 TB vs. 512 GB), slightly better battery life when normal multitasking (6 hour vs. 5 hours), and lower weight and size. The M16 is 4.59 lbs laptop only and 6.22 lbs with 240W power brick. The Legion 5i Pro is a heftier 5.65 lbs laptop only and 7.94 lbs with 300W power brick. The 5i pro has a higher 150W versus 120W power spec. The M16 is 0.78"x13.98"x9.57"and the 5i Pro is 0.78-1.05"x14.17"x10.4" (it fattens out towards the back so max thickness is 1.05").

Edit: I misread his review, the 5i pro does have 150W for the 3070 ti which makes more sense given the larger, heavier, 300W power brick. Fixed above.

BAITED. Just kidding, but thanks for chiming in with more in depth information.

Not commenting on other specs, just trying to educate anyone unaware of the minor incremental improvement of i9-12900h.

Totally agree. In fact, in the reviews I saw, the 12700h from the 5i Pro was actually slightly faster than the 12900h. The beefier, heavier, chassis of the Legion probably translated into better cooling.

My interest was legitimately piqued in these two deals, and I might just have to spring for one of them...

Depends if you like 16:10 or 16:9. I'd rather have this.

For what it's worth, one additional note that some might find as an advantage on the Lenovo laptop, both of its RAM slots are upgradable. The Asus has one RAM slot soldered in and the other is the only one that can be upgraded.

I can also confirm that the Lenovo can actually max out at 64GB, not the 32GB that's listed on its product spec page. I upgraded with a Corsair 64GB kit with no issues on the Lenovo.
