so, if you think about it, this is a real decent deal if you invested in the kasa eco system. normally an individual outlet smart plug runs $10-40 depending on the eco system.

1710 joules of surge protection.

I kind of agree with you, however, as someone who has multiple Kasa and Amazon smart plugs, I only guy them when on sale and have never paid more than $5 each. That being said, this isn't much more than that per plug, and you get usb chargers as well. I could think of a few uses for this.

Might want to added YMMV. I bought this when it was $54 and it had the $10 coupon so I can't buy it again.

A single smart plug for $40? Usually I pay $4-5 each for ones that I can flash Tasmota on them. The better question is what you'd need 6 controllable outlets in one place for.

This is what I was thinking too. What's the use case for this? I want to buy it because its cool and a good deal but I am trying to think of when it would be useful

For those who care, the USB ports are regular old dumb ports.

I waffled on this for a while and decided I wouldn't use it to control anything expensive. The joule rating is low for things like TVs, game systems, and home audio and according to the specification manual, the clamping voltage is REALLY high at 600V on every path (L-G, L-N, N-G).

A very good clamping voltage is 330V and many "average" protectors are about 400V, so this lets through at least 1.5x as much voltage to your devices before it starts routing the excess to ground.

I opted to stick with a separate high joule low clamping voltage surge protector and using separate smart plugs on the things I want to control/monitor.

I'd use this for things like lamps or a cheap stereo or maybe a step up from the cheapest sacrificial protectors you can buy off the shelf, but not for anything I couldn't afford to repair/replace. No surge protector can defend against a lightning strike, but I don't want to accidentally sacrifice my TV because it's under protected the next time someone hits a power pole and blows the transformer, either.

This is a pretty darn good deal. I have 2 APC smart strips in my barcade and it's awesome turning on/off each game or all the games by name. I'd buy this if I didn't already have my other ones.

Alexa, turn on the arcade. Love it!

I can see it being useful as part of a phone or tool battery charging station. You could have the chargers plugged in all the time and turn them off when they're not in use or you're not going to be home.

Or maybe for a home bar where you need lights, blenders, ice maker, etc. powered.

This is one of my favorite smart products. I'm a guitarist, and I have my amps, pedal board, and other devices plugged into this. When I walk into my studio, I can say "OK Google, turn on Marshall, Les Paul, and Board 1" and it turns on specific equipment. It's handy for turning on and off specific gear that's all in one area Smilie

I'll give it a shot. I want to be able to restart my modem, router and WiFi, which are partially hidden behind furniture, when having network issues (maybe scheduled?).

These operate off WiFi, so you may not be able to restart your router successfully using them, even if you schedule it.

I've not tried it, but I seem to recall it being one of those use cases where you can definitely use it to shut them off, but you'd have to manually turn them back on. Better to get a Bluetooth plug for your router/modem setup.

Can I set an automatic action which turns the outlet off when it detects the energy usage of that outlet is below certain level? For example, the battery is fully charged or dehumidifier is on standby mode?

Does anyone know if you earn watts for each individual outlet for ohmconnect?
