SlickdealsForumsHot DealsCostco Members: Kevlar by DuPont Gen 3 60-ft Heavy Duty Fabric Water Hose with Swivel Coupling, Clearance w/Free Shipping $29.97
I have 2 of these hoses and the reviews are correct, on both of them the end handle came off almost right away. I used some e6000 on one, but that only lasted about a month and it came off again. For now, I have used some black duct tape to keep the pieces in place. Other than that issue, the hoses have held up well.
These hoses are perfect for watering your yard on the weekend... in Chicago.
It's a completely different hose. The Flexzilla has a Max. working pressure at 70Ā°F: 150 psi, whereas OP is 600psi. It's also 10' shorter than the Kevlar one. The Kevlar one is fabric, the Flexzilla is a polymer. The Kevlar weighs 2 pounds less (5.5lbs vs 7.5lbs).

I could use a couple more of the heavy Craftsman rubber hoses with the hexagonal cross section and will stop by Lowes to see if the Briggs and Stratton mentioned upthread are the same. One had an end fitting that came off but a mender kit fixed it, something that is apparently not possible with the Kevlar hose that this thread is about.
(I use them with Eley hose reels so the weight is not an issue.)
I agree the Craftsman black rubber hoses were the best! I still have two I've been using with zero issues for 13 years now. However even though there aren't many Sears/Kmarts around anymore I still see them for sale on Amazon & Ebay fyiā¦. they sold the Craftsman line to another company & why you see Craftman brand at Ace Hardware now among many other retailers too unless I'm mistaken ā¦
Even before they sold off the brand, they switched the manufacturer of the rubber hoses. The new ones were poorly rated in comparison. The real ones are 6960x. You won't find them anywhere new.
Tempted by the SD effect. But then I have to remind myself that many parts of the country are having water problems and removing the green lawn etc.
Anyway, I notice "Spinning Male Coupling Prevents Kinks". When all males will be made like this? Or that where the thrill is?
Am curious how this compares to some of the no-name Amazon fabric hoses that have brass connectors? This one is same price but 100' instead of 60'. Are these garbage?: https://www.amazon.com/Expandable...08YJ9T183/
I've done a decent amount of research looking for a lightweight hose that is durable enough to last several years. They don't seem to exist. My Mom has arthritis and can't really manage a good, rubber hose, so we've resigned ourselves to buying very light weight hoses, like this one, and keeping a spare in the garage for the inevitable burst/failure we know is coming.
Not much else I can think of doing.
Have you tried the Zero-G hoses? Bought mine five years ago and it is still in excellent condition, even after being dragged across our concrete driveway every day during the summer. It has a five year warranty, so it should be good for at least that long. I am posting a link to Amazon, but they are sold at Lowe's, Ace, etc., so you could probably find one locally. https://www.amazon.com/4001-50-Li...B014M9PEXC

This is the one we've had the most success with. Got 2 or 3 years out of the last one before it burst. Hose stored in a basket outside 24/7.

These were the best. The only issue was they leave your hands with black mark after using it. Other than that it still going strong. I have one 100ft brand new in garage.
So that plastic coupling is the main issue with the hose and other then that every is great?
Might be going a bit far - as I mentioned above, there are tradeoffs. The volume is significantly reduced - I know it says 5/8", but it's certainly less and the flow shows it. Multiple reviews on Costco's site point this out as well. The tradeoff is weight - so you're not lugging around a heavy rubber 3/4" hose, but you're not getting the flow you would out of one either.
That, and I can't speak to longevity. I've had it a few months. So far, it looks like it's held up pretty well, but I don't know that won't change over the winter or the next 6 months. Considering it's got Costco's backing, it's worth the risk if you're looking for a lighter hose at the expense of flow rate.
How do these compare to the Craftsman lifetime rubber hoses that are no longer available? Those were the absolute best for my usage, but I could use another.
Those craftsman rubber hoses are the best I've ever had!
Hi, lanaven. That was one hose that came up in my research, too. If I remember right, there was zero or very short warranty, though. Somewhere, responding to reviewers, the brand's rep had commented that their hoses are made by Porter Any idea what Porter means in terms of quality and durability? Thanks
